Job Summary
As an Extrusion Supervisor at MI Metals, Inc., you will be crucial in overseeing and optimizing the extrusion process in our Smyrna, Tennessee plant. You will manage a team of press operators, ensure safety, quality, and production goals are met, and maintain efficient and smooth production operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervision: Lead and supervise a team of extrusion press employees, providing guidance, support, and coaching to ensure the team's success. Including the optimization of the extrusion press setup and operation and monitoring temperature, speed, and pressures during production. Responsible for ensuring the correct alloys are running for the correct processes.
- Safety: Enforce and promote a safety culture, ensuring all employees adhere to safety protocols and regulations to maintain a safe work environment.
- Quality Assurance: Monitor and maintain product quality standards through visual inspections, quality checks, and process control measures. Read and understand calipers, micrometers, and tape measures.
- Production Efficiency: Optimize production processes to meet or exceed production targets, minimize downtime, and reduce waste.
- Maintenance Coordination: Collaborate with maintenance technicians to ensure equipment is maintained correctly and address any operational issues promptly.
- Training and Development: Train new employees, provide ongoing training to existing team members, and identify opportunities for skill development.
- Documentation: Maintain production records, reports, and documentation in compliance with company standards and procedures.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify areas for process improvement, cost reduction, and efficiency gains and implement relevant initiatives.
- Communication: Foster open communication channels with employees, other departments, and managers to address concerns, provide updates, and promote a collaborative work environment.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Technical certification or vocational training in a related field is preferred
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in similar industrial manufacturing, experience working 2nd and 3rd shifts is preferred
- Experience with aluminum extrusion processes, equipment, and quality control is preferred
- Previous supervisory experience in an aluminum extrusion or similar industry is preferred
- Knowledge of safety regulations and a commitment to promoting a safe work environment
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Effective communication and leadership abilities
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- Proficiency in basic computer applications and production data entry
- Experience working 2nd or 3rd shift is preferred.
