The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for researching, designing, developing, evaluating, and supporting mechanical products, equipment, systems, and manufacturing processes. This position applies engineering principles to develop practical and efficient solutions that meet operational, production, quality, safety, and performance requirements.
The Mechanical Engineer supports projects throughout the design and manufacturing lifecycle, from concept development and technical design through fabrication, installation, testing, operation, and continuous improvement. This role works closely with engineering, operations, manufacturing, maintenance, and other cross-functional teams to resolve technical issues, improve equipment and processes, and ensure designs can be effectively and reliably manufactured and operated.
Location:
This position is an in-person role located in Vienna, OH. There may be travel required to other Millwood facilities.
Role and Responsibilities
- Research, design, develop, evaluate, and support mechanical products, equipment, systems, components, and manufacturing processes.
- Develop mechanical designs for equipment, machinery, material handling systems, power-producing equipment, and other manufacturing applications.
- Create, review, and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, specifications, models, and computer-generated engineering reports.
- Utilize engineering principles, calculations, modeling, and design tools to evaluate the feasibility, performance, reliability, and functionality of proposed designs.
- Develop and modify engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation required for manufacturing and fabrication.
- Coordinate and monitor aspects of production related to engineering designs, including the selection of manufacturing methods, materials, fabrication techniques, equipment, and operating processes.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, operations, maintenance, engineering, and other personnel to implement new equipment, products, systems, and operating procedures.
- Provide technical support during fabrication, installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of mechanical equipment and systems.
- Investigate equipment failures, system malfunctions, production issues, and other technical problems to identify root causes and develop corrective solutions.
- Recommend modifications to existing equipment, components, designs, and processes to improve safety, quality, reliability, efficiency, productivity, and cost effectiveness.
- Evaluate mechanical systems and equipment to ensure they meet established design requirements, operational specifications, and applicable engineering standards.
- Participate in testing, validation, troubleshooting, and performance evaluation of new and modified equipment and designs.
- Provide technical information, recommendations, and engineering guidance to internal teams, vendors, suppliers, and other project stakeholders.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve manufacturing processes, equipment performance, material flow, and overall operational effectiveness.
- Assist with the development and implementation of preventative maintenance, equipment reliability, and process improvement strategies as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate engineering records, drawings, specifications, project documentation, and technical reports.
- Support engineering projects by coordinating project activities, monitoring progress, identifying technical risks, and assisting with implementation.
- Ensure engineering activities and designs comply with applicable company requirements, safety standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
- Perform other related engineering duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications and Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a closely related engineering discipline required.
- Previous mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, product design, equipment design, or related experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.
- Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar engineering design software preferred.
- Experience developing and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, schematics, and technical documentation preferred.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, fabrication methods, material selection, mechanical systems, and industrial equipment preferred.
- Experience supporting equipment installation, troubleshooting, manufacturing operations, or continuous improvement initiatives preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or Engineer in Training (EIT) certification may be preferred depending on the responsibilities and scope of the position.
