mimic robotics is a frontier physical AI company building the full stack of general-purpose dexterous manipulation. Founded in 2024 by ETH Zurich researchers, mimic pioneered Video-Action Models for robotics while also developing in-house dexterous hand hardware. The Role
We're looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to work on the mechanical and human-centered design of our U-Mimic wearable data collection device used by factory workers to collect high-quality hand-motion and force data. You'll own key mechanical and ergonomic decisions balancing device accuracy with comfort, robustness, and real-world usability while taking the wearable from early prototypes toward a scalable product.
Responsibilities
- Own the wearable's mechanical architecture, including kinematics, fit, ergonomics, and usability.
- Balance device accuracy, component packaging, robustness, and wearer comfort.
- Work closely with electrical and firmware engineers to integrate sensors, flexible PCBs, cabling, and embedded components.
- Build, test, and iterate rapidly based on hands-on testing and user feedback.
- Set the mechanical design direction as the wearable moves into scaled production.
- Work with external suppliers and manufacturing partners where needed.
Requirements
- Strong mechanical engineering background with experience developing products that interact closely with the human body.
- Experience in wearables, prosthetics, orthotics, exoskeletons, haptics, medical devices, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of ergonomics, variable body geometry, comfort, and usability.
- Experience integrating sensors or electronics into mechanical systems.
- Strong CAD and prototyping skills with experience in iterative hardware development.
- Ability to independently solve open-ended engineering problems and make architectural decisions.
Nice to Have
- Experience with flexible electronics, soft goods, silicones, or other human-contact materials.
- Experience taking hardware from prototype toward production including certification.
- Experience with tactile sensing, hand tracking, or force sensing.
- Experience working with external manufacturers or suppliers.
