Position Summary:

At Miovision, we build the custom hardware that keeps global traffic flowing smoothly. But before our devices can clear up intersections, they need a rock-solid foundation under the hood. We are looking for a Firmware Developer to build the low-level hardware abstraction layers (BSP) and on-device software stacks that act as the engine for our Core, Scout, and Opticom products. You will navigate the complex roadways of multi-board, multi-processor hardware, getting your hands dirty with kernel builds, low-level drivers, and rigorous hardware validation. If you are passionate about practical problem-solving, love tinkering in a Linux environment, and are ready to merge into a hybrid role at our Kitchener headquarters to build tech that actively drives the future, green means go!

Objectives and Responsibilities:

• Core Development: Develop highly reliable embedded Linux software in Python and firmware solutions in C/C++, owning features from initial concept right through to completion.

• Hardware Bring-Up: Partner closely with the Electrical Engineering team during the critical bring-up and debug phases for our new, custom-built hardware.

• Complex Troubleshooting: Jump in to troubleshoot, debug, and resolve intricate product and manufacturing-related hardware issues.

• Rigorous Validation: Ensure an exceptionally high quality of work through both manual and automated testing, collaborating with the QA team to guarantee complete test coverage across all hardware interfaces.

• Cross-Functional Integration: Work seamlessly with the Device Software team to resolve software dependencies, ensuring our hardware unlocks the full functionality of Miovision’s application software.

• Code Craftsmanship: Actively participate in the peer code review process, maintaining high standards for the codebase and ensuring scalable, maintainable firmware.

The Ideal Profile:

• The Embedded Engineer: You bring solid embedded and firmware design experience, backed by strong programming chops in C/C++ and Python.

• The Hardware Tinkerer: You are highly familiar with embedded systems at the board and IC level, totally comfortable reading schematics and datasheets, and you know exactly how to wield an oscilloscope for troubleshooting.

• The Protocol Pro: You have practical, hands-on experience navigating essential communication protocols, including UART, I2C, SPI, USB, and Ethernet.

• The Linux Enthusiast: You love working within Linux environments, confidently wielding command-line utilities (like tcpdump or netcat), and ideally bring exposure to Yocto, Buildroot, or an RTOS.

• The Modern Developer: You are comfortable with modern development pipelines and cloud ecosystems, navigating tools like Git, Docker, CMake, and AWS with ease, while applying strong unit testing and static analysis principles.

• The AI Adopter: You are forward-thinking and excited to leverage modern AI tools (like AMP AI) for deep-dive analysis of complex code and datasheets, or to rapidly generate scripts.

• The Collaborative Problem Solver: You are fiercely curious, data-driven, and boast the positive attitude and strong communication skills needed to build great relationships across our QA, Electrical, and Software teams.
