Short Order Cook

Short Order Cook prepares much of the food that comes out of the kitchen. Will prepare and cook to order a variety of foods that require only a short preparation time. May take orders from customers and serve them at counters or tables. Other responsibilities are presentation and storage of menu items as designated by standard, recipes, and health codes.

Salary range: $37000 - $45000 per year.

Responsibilities 

• Grill, cook, and fry foods such as eggs, french fries, and pancakes.

• Clean work areas, food preparation equipment, and counters, or tables.

• Clean food preparation areas, facilities, or equipment.

• Take orders from customers and cook foods needing short preparation times, according to customer requirements.

• Rotate food, restock kitchen supplies, and stamp the date and time on food in coolers.

• Grill and garnish hamburgers or other meats, such as steaks and chops.

• Maintain beverage, food, or equipment inventories.

• Perform food preparation duties, such as making sandwiches, making soups or salads, carving meats, baking bread or desserts, and brewing coffee or tea.

• Prepare foods for cooking or serving.

• Prepare hot or cold beverages.

• Prepare bread or doughs.

• Plan work on orders so that food items served together are finished at the same time.

• Coordinate the timing of food production activities.

• Complete orders from placing food on plates, steam tables, and serving customers at tables or counters.

• Serve food or beverages.

• Accept payments, and make changes or write charge slips as necessary.

• A high school diploma or equivalent.

• Previous guest/customer relations training preferred.

• Good understanding of the English language.

• Endure various physical movements throughout the work areas.

• The ability to multi-task and work quickly and efficiently.

• Strong communication, teamworking, and customer service skills.

• Manual dexterity and a good sense of taste.
