Summer 2027 Intern -Chemist

Summary:

Work alongside experienced chemists to learn the fundamentals of developing high-performance silicone formulations for aerospace applications through hands-on laboratory experience and mentorship. In collaboration with your mentor, you will define and execute a meaningful technical project that spans laboratory, pilot-scale, and production-scale activities, providing exposure to the full product development process.
Throughout the internship, you will apply scientific problem-solving skills, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute to real-world aerospace technologies. At the conclusion of the internship, you will present your project objectives, findings, and key learnings to the Aerospace Technology team in Waterford.

Responsibilities Include:

• Prepare and evaluate silicone formulations for new product development, raw material qualifications, and product improvement initiatives supporting aerospace and electronics applications across laboratory, pilot-scale, and production environments.

• Learn and apply safe laboratory practices, formulation techniques, and operation of equipment used in silicone product development.

• Partner with a project mentor to design and execute formulation experiments, including the use of statistical tools such as Minitab or Design-Expert to support experimental design and data analysis.

• Procure materials, prepare formulations, conduct testing on uncured and cured silicone materials, and document experimental results.

• Analyze data, draw technical conclusions, and communicate findings through presentations and reports to the Aerospace Technology team.

• Maintain and improve the chemical inventory management system by auditing existing inventory records, verifying accuracy, and updating databases to ensure reliable material tracking and compliance.

Qualifications:

The following are required for the role

Minimum Qualifications :

• Enrolled in a BS, MSc, or PhD degree program within Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, Engineering or related field.
• Good laboratory skills for accurate weighing, pipetting, etc. chemicals in the laboratory and a general knowledge of safe laboratory practices for working with chemicals in a fume hood.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
• Ability to lift up to 30 lbs

Program Minimum Qualifications:

• The candidate must be actively enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at the time of application and for at least one semester following the conclusion of the internship.
• The candidate is expected to be available 40 hours a week for a period of 10-12 weeks between the months of May and August.

Education Requirement:

• Must be enrolled in a BS or MSc or PhD graduate program within Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, Engineering or related field

What We Offer:

Base Pay Range: $22.00 - $26.00
