Adjunct, Printmaking

The Department of Art & Design at Monmouth University invites applications for an Adjunct Professor of Printmaking position beginning in Spring 2027. The successful candidate will teach with demonstrated hands-on expertise in Intaglio, Photo-Emulsion Silk-Screen, and/or Book Arts.

Part-time Adjunct Faculty members typically teach 3-6 credits per semester, with class schedules determined based on departmental needs and candidate availability. Courses are taught in person at the West Long Branch campus. Adjunct positions remain posted continuously to expand the university’s pool of qualified adjunct faculty. This is an in-person, on-campus, non-remote position. 

The Department of Art & Design offers an innovative curriculum in Animation, Graphic and Interactive Design, Photography, Studio Art, and Art Education. Faculty work together within an intimate learning environment and are committed to educating students who seek challenging and comprehensive studio experiences. The department maintains multiple galleries for exhibiting creative works of students, faculty, and practicing artists. Printmaking facilities include studios equipped for all forms of traditional print, including intaglio, silkscreen, relief, papermaking, and book arts.

Duties and Responsibilities:  
Adjunct faculty teach up to two courses per semester (six credit hours total). Course assignments and scheduling are determined by the Department Chair based on enrollment and departmental need, and may include:

• This course carries 4.5 load hours.
• Intaglio — engraving, etching, and related traditional and contemporary intaglio processes.
• Photo-Emulsion Silk-Screen — photographic stencil methods, emulsion preparation, exposure techniques, and multi-color screen printing.
• Book Arts — hand papermaking, bookbinding structures, and the artist book tradition.
• Develop and deliver course lectures, discussions and assignments in accordance with the curriculum and learning objectives.
• Provide time during the week to meet with students outside of class.
• Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment conducive to student engagement and academic success.
• Develop and administer projects and exams to evaluate student learning outcomes and provide grades in a timely manner.
• Provide timely feedback and guidance to students to support their learning and development.

Minimum Requirements:

• MFA in Printmaking, Studio Art, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated hands-on studio expertise in a combination of Intaglio, Photo-Emulsion Silk-Screen, and/or Book Arts.
• Ability to safely manage a printmaking studio environment, including proper operation of equipment and responsible handling of chemical and photographic processes to OSHA and EPA standards, and purchasing of supplies.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior college-level teaching experience in printmaking and studio.
• Active professional studio practice with a current exhibition and/or publication.
• Experience integrating digital imaging or other contemporary technologies with traditional printmaking processes.
• Experience with sustainable water-soluble printmaking.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in studio.
