    Job Summary
    The practice of a Surgical physician assistant shall include medical services within the education, training and experience of the physician assistant that are delegated by the supervising physician.
    Medical services rendered by Surgical physician assistants may include, but are not limited to, obtaining patient histories and performing physical examinations; ordering and/or performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; formulating a diagnosis; developing and implementing a treatment plan; monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions; assisting at surgery; offering counseling and education to meet patient needs; making appropriate referrals. Surgical Physician Assistants, in an emergency, shall be authorized to treat any medical disease and/or perform any medical and surgical procedures at the hospital for affiliates. An emergency, for these purposed, is defined as a situation in which any delay in administering treatment would result in serious harm to the patient or an immediate threat to life of the patient and that a qualified practitioner is not immediately available.
    The activities listed below may be performed in any setting authorized by the supervising physician, including but not limited to, clinics, hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, patient homes, nursing homes and other institution settings.

    The Department of Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery (CVTS) at Montefiore Medical Center is seeking a Surgical Physician Assistant to join its Surgical Oncology team. This role offers the opportunity to provide comprehensive surgical care across the inpatient, outpatient, and perioperative settings while working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care.

      >Bladder Irrigation
      >Blood Products, administration
      >Casts, applications & removal
      >CVP Line, removal
      >EKG Recording
      >Enteral Feed Tubes, insertion and removal
      >Foley Catheters, insertion and removal
      >Immobilization, extremities
      >Injections, Sub Q, IM intradermal
      >Intravenous Medication, administration
      >Lacerations, repair of
      >Nail Trephining
      >Nasogastric Tubes, insertion and removal
      >Oropharyngeal Airway (current ACLS required)
      >Skin Tests, administration of
      >First Assist ion Operating Room
      >Suction
      >Surgical Dressings, application/removal
      >Sutures and/or staple removal
      >Venipuncture
      >Wound Debridement

    Education, Training & Experience

    • Bachelors Degree or higher required
    • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program required.
    • Current New York State Physician Assistant license required.
    • NCCPA certification required.
    • Current BLS certification required.
    • ACLS certification preferred.
    • Previous experience in colorectal surgery, general surgery, or another surgical specialty preferred.
    • Experience assisting in the operating room and managing surgical patients is highly desirable.
    • Excellent clinical judgment, communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment are essential.
