    CLINICAL PHARMACIST

    WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

    We are seeking a knowledgeable and patient-focused Clinical Pharmacist to join our Pharmacy Department. The Clinical Pharmacist provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care, supports medication safety, collaborates with physicians and clinical staff, and ensures medications are prepared, stored, and distributed safely and effectively.

    The ideal candidate will be able to work independently, exercise sound professional judgment, prioritize competing demands, and communicate effectively with patients, families, providers, and members of the healthcare team.

    WHAT YOU GET TO DO

    • Provide clinical pharmacy services and pharmaceutical care to patients across the continuum of care.

    • Fill orders for parenteral and enteral medications and monitor patient drug therapies.

    • Provide drug information to physicians, nurses, patients, and other healthcare professionals.

    • Supervise and direct pharmacy support personnel, including technicians and students.

    • Provide staff pharmacist coverage as needed, including on-call responsibilities.

    • Monitor Pharmacy Department activities and take appropriate action to promote efficient and effective operations.

    • Collaborate closely with nursing staff, medical staff, physicians, and clinical department managers regarding pharmaceutical services.

    • Support medication safety initiatives and reduce the likelihood of medication errors.

    • Follow the five medication rights and promote safe medication practices.

    • Oversee the storage and distribution of pharmaceutical items throughout the Pharmacy Department and patient care areas.

    • Ensure pharmaceutical preparations are sterile, properly packaged, labeled, stored, and not outdated.

    • Ensure appropriate equipment is available for the safe preparation of compounded sterile preparations.

    • Certify the skills of compounding staff.

    • Maintain pharmacy records and appropriate controls for requisitioning and dispensing pharmaceuticals.

    • Maintain formularies, drug information resources, and references for pharmaceutical preparations.

    • Assist with Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee activities and reporting.

    • Assess and reassess patient pain and utilize appropriate pain management techniques.

    • Educate patients and families regarding pain management when appropriate.

    • Read, analyze, and interpret pharmacy-related journals and technical information.

    • Perform data collection, analysis, problem identification, and decision-making related to pharmacy services.

    • Respond professionally to inquiries and complaints from patients, regulatory agencies, and hospital staff.

    • Provide pharmacy services appropriate to patients of all ages, including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.

    • In the absence of the Pharmacy Manager, assume essential pharmacy management responsibilities as assigned.

    • Represent Morehouse General Hospital in the community in a positive and professional manner.

    WHAT WILL HELP YOU STAND OUT

    • Graduate of an ACPE-accredited school of Pharmacy.

    • Current Louisiana Pharmacist license required.

    • Health system/hospital pharmacy experience preferred.

    • Strong clinical judgment and problem-solving abilities.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

    • Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision.

    • Ability to work cooperatively with pharmacy, nursing, medical, and other healthcare staff.

    • Ability to prioritize tasks, make critical decisions, and respond appropriately to emergency requests.

    • Basic computer skills.

    • Ability to adapt to changes in workload and work schedule.

    • Ability to handle frequent interruptions.

    • Ability to provide pharmaceutical care to pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric, psychiatric, obstetric, rehabilitation, and skilled nursing patients.

    • Additional language skills are preferred.

    • Excellent customer service skills.

    WHAT TO EXPECT

    • Work is performed in a hospital Pharmacy Department and clinical patient-care environment.

    • Potential exposure to infectious waste, infectious patients, and hazardous or toxic substances, including chemotherapy, cytotoxic drugs, and cleaning solutions.

    • Potential exposure to needles and other sharp items.

    • Moderate to occasionally loud noise levels and interactions with patients and others may occur.

    • Potential exposure to environmental conditions including heat, cold, rain, wind, and other weather conditions.

    • Physical demands may include lifting and carrying and require appropriate techniques to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injury.

    • The position may require participation in on-call duties and varying work schedules as needed.

    • Employees are expected to maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all hospital policies, procedures, safety requirements, infection-control standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.

    • Employees must maintain required educational, regulatory, state, federal, and accreditation requirements.

    • Employees are expected to represent Morehouse General Hospital in a positive and professional manner.
