We are looking for a Surgical Technician to join our Surgical Services team. The Surgical Technician plays an essential role in supporting surgeons, nurses, anesthesia providers, and other members of the surgical team before, during, and after surgical procedures.
The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, calm under pressure, and committed to maintaining the highest standards of patient safety, infection prevention, and sterile technique.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program preferred.
Previous surgical technician experience preferred.
Current BLS certification required.
CST certification preferred, if applicable.
Knowledge of sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, and infection prevention practices.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment.
Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and protect patient information.
Must be able to safely lift, position, and assist with patient movement as required.
Prepare operating rooms for scheduled surgical procedures.
Ensure surgical instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications are available and properly prepared.
Assist with maintaining a sterile field throughout surgical procedures.
Perform surgical counts of instruments, sponges, needles, and other supplies in accordance with hospital policy.
Pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon and surgical team during procedures.
Assist with positioning and preparing patients for surgery while maintaining patient safety, privacy, and dignity.
Assist with surgical site preparation and draping as directed by the surgical team.
Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and other members of the surgical team during procedures.
Handle specimens according to established hospital policies and procedures.
Maintain and monitor sterile supplies and surgical equipment.
Assist with room turnover and preparation between procedures.
Properly clean, disinfect, and prepare instruments and equipment for sterilization according to established procedures.
Follow all infection prevention, safety, and sterile technique standards.
Assist with maintaining adequate inventory of surgical supplies and report shortages or equipment concerns.
Participate in emergency and urgent surgical procedures as needed.
Document required information accurately and timely.
Maintain compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Protect patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements.
Work collaboratively with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia personnel, and other hospital staff to promote safe and efficient patient care.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Work is primarily performed in an operating room and surgical services environment.
May require extended periods of standing and walking.
Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment for extended periods.
May be required to assist with lifting, transferring, and positioning patients.
May be exposed to blood, bodily fluids, chemicals, infectious materials, and surgical equipment.
May require participation in on-call, weekend, holiday, or emergency coverage based on department needs.
