The Performance Carbon business of Morgan Advanced Materials makes high-performance self-lubricating bearing and seal components, predominantly used in pumps, industrial and domestic, or other sealing applications.

We use advanced carbon/graphite, silicon carbide, alumina and zirconia materials to engineer lightweight, low-friction bearings and seals. These materials help solve the problems associated with the use of lubricants in extreme temperatures, corrosive or hygienic environments where access is restricted, and are engineered into products which provide customer-specific solutions.

Responsibilities

Major Responsibilities:

Technical support to a functional area of the Green End processing (i.e. flour prep, molding, kilning, impregnation, sintering, etc.).  Develop, implement, and manage the manufacturing processes, methods, and equipment designed to ensure continuous production of advanced ceramic and composite materials that meet or exceed our customers’ expectations.  Ensure that these manufacturing processes, methods, and equipment meet or exceed the requirements of our ISO 9001:2015 and AS 9100D Certifications and are consistent with established standards, customer specifications, and production goals.  Perform roles and responsibilities in accordance with direction from the Process Engineering Manager.

Essential Functions:

Assumes the role of primary technical support for an assigned functional area, could require travel between two sites.

Independently communicates with supervisors, technicians, operators and managers to identify and correct causes of process disruptions.

Identifies opportunities to improve existing processes and takes initiative to propose and implement solutions in a timely manner when possible.

Writes and presents proposals for larger scale process improvement opportunities including cost/benefit analysis.

Writes and submits capital expenditure requests.

Leads small-medium capital expenditure projects for functional area of responsibility.

Works with suppliers to identify and test new materials, equipment and software that could improve performance or reduce operational cost.

Leads cross functional project team in functional area focusing on continuous improvement.

Supports cross functional teams focused on continuous improvement projects for assigned and other functional areas.

Supports the sales and application teams as needed to help with customer complaints and new business opportunities.

Conducts thorough investigations into scrap events and dispositions questionable material in a timely manner.

Assists in training shop floor associates on manufacturing processes and methods.

Continually works to learn and share knowledge about functional area.

Actively looks for opportunities to link and test theoretical knowledge in application.

Audits and updates technical specifications as needed in compliance with quality systems

Keeps procedural documentation for functional area up to date and in compliance with quality systems.

Presents data and reports using various formats and technologies (i.e. PowerPoint, Minitab, Excel, Teams, etc.)

Functions as a leader in safety: observing all safety practices, promoting positive safety culture, and holding safety as a core value in the execution of all other responsibilities.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications and Education Requirements:

• B.S. degree in Material Science or Engineering is desired and often required.
• Prior experience working with manufacturing processes that utilize raw material handling, mixing, molding, and high temperature baking equipment (mixers, presses, ovens, etc.) is preferred.
• Basic understanding of quality management systems is required.
• Knowledge of Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing techniques is desired.
• Experience with developing/documenting procedures is required.
• Computer proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office.
• Candidates must be a US Person, defined as an individual that is a:
  • Citizen of the United States, or
  • Permanent resident alien of the United States, or
  • Protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3) as defined by 22CFR120.15
