Peer Worker

Join our brand new multidisciplinary mental health team in the Northern Gold Coast! While driving high-quality, person-centred care across Open Minds’ Medicare Mental Health Services, our centres offer assessment, triage, warm referrals, immediate and short-medium term support for people with varying levels of need, including those in crisis.

As a Peer Worker, you’ll draw on your own lived or living experience of mental health challenges and recovery to provide compassionate, trauma-informed support. You will assist in generating a holistic view of consumer’s circumstances to better understand the sources of their distress to identify connections and relationships that can best support them. Your unique insights will help foster trust, inspire hope and promote growth, both for our consumers and for you.

A personal lived experience of mental health challenges and personal recovery is an essential requirement for this role.

Responsibilities

• Connect and build rapport with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including First Nations, CALD and LGBTQIA+ individuals, and those at risk of homelessness or suicide.
• Utilise your lived experience to advocate for consumers and the voice of lived experience.
• Participate in community promotional events and foster strong relationships with local service providers to connect consumers with appropriate support and resources.
• Maintain accurate and compliant service records while supporting administrative functions, including the ongoing maintenance of an up-to-date database of community programs and services.
• Implement knowledge of ethical considerations around confidentiality and professional boundaries.

Requirements 

• Personal lived experience of mental health challenges and person recovery
• Current Driver Licence
• Current Blue Card
• Current National Police Check
• A Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or similar (or willing to obtain)
