Adventure Specialist

Natural Habitat Adventures (Nat Hab), a nature-focused global adventure travel company based in Boulder, Colorado, is seeking an Adventure Specialist to join our sales team. This role is primarily responsible for guiding prospective travelers through the process of choosing and booking their ideal nature adventure—drawing on deep destination knowledge, strong communication skills, and a passion for connecting people with the natural world.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop in-depth knowledge of Natural Habitat Adventures destinations, trip styles, and individual itineraries to effectively advise guests.
• Respond promptly and professionally to incoming phone calls and emails from prospective travelers, often managing multiple inquiries in quick succession.
• Create and write customized itineraries and proposals tailored to the interests and preferences of individual guests.
• Focus on direct sales by engaging with prospective clients, promoting products, and guiding them through the booking process to close sales.
• Follow up on leads to identify trip preferences, recommend suitable options, and secure reservations.
• Book and enter guest reservations into internal systems while managing pre-trip questions, special requests, and logistical details.
• Handle guest inquiries and assist in resolving minor issues related to bookings, travel logistics, and services.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including marketing, air, concierge, and operations, to ensure seamless service and exceptional guest experiences.
• Operate within established sales processes and frameworks, often under the guidance of senior team members or managers.
• Maintain availability to work a full-time schedule, Monday through Friday (8 AM–5 PM MT), with participation in a rotating Saturday shift (8 AM–3 PM MT); additional hours may be required to meet sales and performance goals.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• International travel experience preferred, especially to nature-based destinations (e.g., Africa, Galapagos).
• Sales experience in the travel industry is not a requirement but is a huge plus, particularly with trips (custom or otherwise) to Africa and the Galapagos.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Highly organized with strong multitasking capabilities.
• Comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Effective team player who can also work independently.
• Entry to mid-level professional experience preferred.
• Demonstrated understanding of sales principles and the customer journey.
• Familiarity with core tools and systems (e.g., Tigress); training and support provided.
• Passion for travel and excellence in customer service.
• Strong initiative and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
• Potential to advance to a Senior Adventure Specialist role based on performance and sales success

COMPENSATION

The starting salary for this position is $50,000 per year, paid twice monthly in accordance with Natural Habitat Adventures’ standard payroll schedule and subject to all required taxes, withholdings, and deductions. You must remain employed with Natural Habitat Adventures through the bonus payment date in order to receive such bonus.

In addition to base salary, you will be eligible to earn:

• Commission: 1% of your individual tour and extension sales revenue (excluding all airfare).
• Bonuses: Monthly booking bonuses based on total confirmed bookings, beginning at 30 bookings per month and increasing in value with every additional increment of 10 bookings. Bonus structure is determined by the Chief Sales Officer.

After one year of employment, compensation transitions to the standard sales commission plan:

• Base Salary: $8,000 per year.
• Commission: Approximately 1.25% of your total sales.
• Bonuses: As determined by the established team bonus structure.

Compensation and Benefits are subject to change at the company’s discretion.

LOCATION AND TRAVEL

This is a hybrid position based in our Louisville, Colorado office. Employees are expected to work on-site three days per week and fully in person during the initial six weeks. In addition, all employees are required to attend one annual company-wide, in-person staff week, as well as one additional in-office week each year scheduled by their department. This policy may be modified at the company's discretion based on business needs.

WORKING HOURS

Our standard company hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM MT. We also operate on Saturdays from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with coverage provided by select members of our guest-facing teams. You will follow standard weekday hours and participate in a rotating Saturday schedule. Additional hours may be required, as needed, to meet goals and support business needs.
