    Job description

    Position Goal

    The Head of Corporate Banking is responsible for leading and overseeing the Bank's Corporate Banking business to achieve sustainable growth, profitability, and superior customer outcomes. The role is accountable for developing and executing the Corporate Banking strategy, driving revenue growth, managing portfolio quality and risk, strengthening key client relationships, and ensuring the delivery of comprehensive banking solutions to corporate customers.

    The incumbent will provide strategic leadership to the Corporate Banking team, ensure effective execution of business plans, and maintain a strong risk and compliance culture while supporting the Bank's overall growth objectives.

    Key Result Areas

    Relationship Management & Client Coverage

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with key corporate clients, industry leaders, business associations, and strategic stakeholders.
    • Lead the acquisition, retention, and development of large corporate and institutional banking relationships.
    • Oversee the delivery of integrated banking solutions, including:
      • Corporate lending and structured finance
      • Working capital facilities
      • Trade finance
      • Treasury solutions
      • Cash management
      • Foreign exchange services
      • Investment and advisory services
    • Ensure relationship managers maintain effective account plans and maximize cross-selling opportunities across all business lines.
    • Represent the Bank at key client meetings, industry forums, and business events.

    Portfolio Management & Risk Oversight

    • Assume overall responsibility for the quality, performance, and risk profile of the Corporate Banking portfolio.
    • Monitor portfolio concentrations by customer, industry, sector, geography, and product.
    • Ensure lending activities comply with the Bank's credit policies, risk appetite, and regulatory requirements.
    • Lead early-warning monitoring processes to identify and address emerging credit risks.
    • Work closely with the (Credit) Risk team, Credit Committee, and Executive Committee to maintain portfolio quality and minimize credit losses.
    • Ensure robust credit assessment, structuring, approval, monitoring, and remediation processes are maintained.

    Financial Management & Performance Monitoring

    • Monitor and manage Corporate Banking financial performance, including revenue, profitability, balance sheet growth, and cost management.
    • Review monthly management accounts and address significant variances against budget and business plans.
    • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for the Corporate Banking team.
    • Drive productivity improvements and optimize resource utilization across the division.
    • Ensure achievement of budgeted financial and business objectives.

    Product Development & Innovation

    • Lead the development, enhancement, and rollout of innovative corporate banking products and solutions.
    • Work collaboratively with Treasury, Transaction Banking, Retail Banking, Digital Banking, and other business units to deliver customer-centric solutions.
    • Ensure products remain competitive and aligned to customer needs and market trends.
    • Drive digital transformation initiatives within Corporate Banking.

    Governance, Compliance & Regulatory Management

    • Ensure compliance with all internal policies, regulatory requirements, prudential standards, and applicable banking legislation.
    • Maintain effective governance frameworks and strong internal controls within Corporate Banking.
    • Ensure timely and accurate responses to Internal Audit, External Audit, Compliance, and regulatory requests.
    • Oversee remediation of audit findings, compliance breaches, and control weaknesses.
    • Promote a strong culture of ethical conduct, governance, and regulatory compliance.

    Leadership & People Management

    • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop a high-performing Corporate Banking team.
    • Build leadership capability within the department and support succession planning initiatives.
    • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide ongoing feedback and development opportunities.
    • Foster a collaborative, customer-focused, and results-oriented work environment.
    • Ensure staff capability aligns with current and future business requirements.

    Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

    • Corporate Banking revenue and profitability growth.
    • Portfolio growth and asset quality.
    • Non-performing loan (NPL) ratios.
    • Return on assets and return on risk-adjusted capital.
    • New corporate customer acquisition.
    • Customer satisfaction and retention.
    • Regulatory and compliance performance.
    • Team engagement and performance outcomes.

    Qualifications and experience

    • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Banking, Economics, Business Administration, Commerce, or a related discipline.
    • Master's Degree (MBA) or postgraduate qualification in Finance, Economics, Banking, or related field is highly desirable.
    • Professional banking or risk management certifications will be an advantage.

    Experience

    • Minimum 10-15 years' banking experience with significant exposure to Corporate Banking, Wholesale Banking, Institutional Banking, or Commercial Banking.
    • At least 5 years in a senior leadership or executive management role.
    • Demonstrated experience managing large corporate client portfolios and complex lending transactions.
    • Proven track record in business development, relationship management, and strategic execution.
    • Experience operating within regulated banking environments.

    Technical Knowledge

    • Strong knowledge of:
      • Corporate and commercial lending
      • Credit analysis and portfolio management
      • Cash management and transaction banking
      • Risk management frameworks
      • Financial analysis and structuring
      • Banking regulations and compliance requirements
    • Sound understanding of financial markets and corporate banking trends.
    • Strong business planning and financial management capabilities.
