The Fiber Optics Instructor is responsible for delivering hands-on and classroom-based training utilizing the Light Brigade Fiber Optics 1-2-3 curriculum. This position prepares students for careers in telecommunications, broadband infrastructure, data centers, and network construction by teaching fiber optic installation, fusion splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and industry safety practices. The instructor will create an engaging learning environment that supports student success and workforce readiness.
Preferred Credentials
- Light Brigade Fiber Optics 1-2-3 Certification (preferred)
- BICSI Installer 1 (INST1) Certification (preferred)
- OSHA 10 Certification or equivalent safety training
- Additional industry certifications are a plus
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver classroom and hands-on instruction in fiber optic theory and practical applications, including installation, termination, fusion splicing, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Facilitate laboratory training using industry-standard tools and equipment, including fusion splicers, OTDRs, power meters, and other testing devices.
- Prepare students to earn Light Brigade certifications and other industry-recognized credentials.
- Demonstrate and enforce proper safety procedures and maintain compliance with all lab safety standards.
- Develop, maintain, and deliver lesson plans, assignments, assessments, and skills evaluations through the Canvas Learning Management System.
- Evaluate student performance, monitor progress, and provide coaching and feedback to support successful completion and employment outcomes.
- Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and student performance records.
- Collaborate with program staff, career coaches, and employer partners to align training with workforce needs.
- Assist with curriculum improvements and support continuous program enhancement.
- Foster a positive, professional, and inclusive learning environment.
