As an Engineer I for Engineering/Plastics, you will be responsible for designing, building fixtures, repairing and maintaining Lab equipment, conducting a wide variety of testing on plastics, pipes, fittings and other related plumbing products to specific standards and procedures. In addition, being the technical representative for the HDS/Chlorine Projects, assist on all internal/external audits, and having a firm understanding of all areas within Plastics/Willow Run.
Responsibilities
- Perform high level laboratory testing with minimal supervision
- Maintain/organize assigned workload to meet specific due dates
- Prepare and record all data per ISO 17025 requirements
- Create, review and update SOPs as necessary
- Monitor and maintain assigned lab equipment for calibrations and other lab needs
- Give and receive continuous trainings
- Cross-train in other lab areas to alleviate the workload when high sample volumes are experienced.
- Maintain a clean work environment and 6s areas
- Maintain and Repair Laboratory Equipment
- Design and Fabricate custom Fixturing to meet Project Demands
- Assure adherence to all safety/health policies and procedures
- Be a Technical Representative for all areas in Plastics/Willow Run
- Respond to internal/external client inquiries
- Research, create, and develop sampling, templates, and testing requirements for specific standards
- Assist with internal/external audits
- Perform other duties as requested
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline
- Ability to read, understand and follow standards, SOP’s and test methods
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Possess a strong Mathematical aptitude
- Possess a strong Mechanical aptitude
- Thorough understanding of data analysis and software
- Highly motivated in completing assignments correctly and on schedule
- Great attention to detail
- Understanding in all areas within Plastics/Willow Run (Certification, Chlorine, HDS, Special Projects)
- Proficient in NSF Applications (Sample Manager (LIMS), Qualer, Insight, DaCs, Warehouse Manager, Master Control)
- Proficient in the use of PC/Windows software and Microsoft Office Suites (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Ability to utilize wide range of tools (hand, power, and pneumatic tools)
- Proficient with measuring instruments (caliper, pi tape, ruler, micrometer, balance)
- Ability to properly handle/mix chemicals and understand the safety risks of each
- Organized and able to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work well independently and in a team environment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in an Engineering discipline
- 3+ years’ Laboratory experience utilizing test standards, methods and data analysis software
- Proficient with laboratory QA/QC programs
- Experience with internal/external audits
- Knowledgeable with polymers and plumbing products
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Light to heavy physical effort required
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Working with various solvents, acids, and bases as needed
- Safety glasses and steel toes must always be worn in lab areas.
- Proper PPE (gloves, hard hats, face shields) needed during specific testing
- 50% lab work / 50% desk work
