    Job description

Extern with Our AAHA-Accredited, Fear Free Certified Veterinary Team!
New England Animal Medical Center Primary Care is a thriving 5-doctor veterinary practice located in a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility dedicated to providing exceptional patient care and client service. As an AAHA-accredited and Fear Free Certified hospital, we are committed to practicing high-quality medicine while creating a positive experience for both pets and their families. In addition to comprehensive primary care services, we offer advanced dentistry with full-mouth radiographs on every dental patient and provide acupuncture services.
    What You'll Experience:
An externship at our NVA hospital offers veterinary students a unique opportunity to gain hands-on clinical experience while learning the day-to-day operations of a successful veterinary practice. Students work closely with experienced veterinarians in a supportive environment that emphasizes excellent medicine, compassionate care, and professional development.
Students may have the opportunity to:
    Obtain and document patient histories
    Perform comprehensive physical examinations
Develop diagnostic and treatment plans alongside veterinarians
Interpret diagnostic findings and discuss case management
Participate in preventive care and wellness appointments
Observe and assist with dentistry procedures, including full-mouth dental radiography
Observe, assist with, or perform surgical procedures as appropriate to skill level and hospital protocols
Gain experience in medical management of hospitalized and outpatient cases
Learn about acupuncture and integrative treatment options
Enhance communication skills through interactions with veterinarians, technicians, support staff, and clients
Develop an understanding of hospital operations and team-based veterinary medicine
    Who Should Apply?
We welcome veterinary students who are eager to expand their clinical knowledge, develop practical skills, and experience the rewarding environment of a progressive companion animal practice. Students should be enthusiastic, professional, and committed to delivering outstanding patient and client care.
Come learn, grow, and gain valuable real-world veterinary experience with our dedicated team. We look forward to helping you build confidence and advance your clinical skills in a supportive and engaging environment.
Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE to view list of stipend amounts and HERE for details on the stipend program.
