    Overview:

    Job Description Summary:

    Prepares and documents patient records used for specimen processing, reporting, and billing within The Institute for Genomic Medicine (IGM).

    Job Description:

    Essential Functions:
    • Receives and accessions samples and orders accurately in laboratory databases, LIS, LIMS, and other related software.
    • Delivers specimens to the designated testing area and records functions in the laboratory information systems.
    • Maintains accurate documentation – obtaining, compiling, and issuing records, reports, and data. Ensures correct distribution for patient care and billing purposes.
    • Communicates with providers regarding incomplete paperwork and other missing information.
    • Provides efficient and effective customer service, ensuring customer satisfaction and quality patient care.
    • Maintains knowledge of current federal, state, and local laws and regulations concerning laboratory reporting and billing requirements, including yearly updates.
    Education Requirement:
    • High School Diploma, required.
    • Associate’s Degree in a science or healthcare management, preferred.

    • Organizational skills, attention to detail, and computer experience.
    • Ability to maintain and foster interpersonal relationships with internal and external customers.
    • Ability to work efficiently both independently and in a team.

    • Flexibility with interruptions and changing circumstances.
    Experience:

    One year of clinical laboratory, medical, and office experience, preferred.

    OCCASIONALLY: Bend/twist, Biohazard waste, Chemicals/Medications, Climb stairs/ladder, Cold Temperatures, Communicable Diseases and/or Pathogens, Fume /Gases /Vapors, Lifting / Carrying: 11-20 lbs, Loud Noises, Pushing / Pulling: 0-25 lbs, Pushing / Pulling: 26-40 lbs, Reaching above shoulder, Squat/kneel

    FREQUENTLY: Blood and/or Bodily Fluids, Decision Making, Interpreting Data, Problem solving, Sitting, Standing, Walking

    CONTINUOUSLY: Audible speech, Color vision, Computer skills, Depth perception, Flexing/extending of neck, Hand use: grasping, gripping, turning, Hearing acuity, Lifting / Carrying: 0-10 lbs, Peripheral vision, Repetitive hand/arm use, Seeing – Far/near
