About the role
Since the beginning, we've been committed to creating a modern and cloud-native tech platform (based on Google Cloud) that adheres to the industry's highest development and operation standards. Our front-end is written in Typescript with React and our back-end in Go, which consists of loosely coupled docker-containerized microservices communicating via RESTful APIs and pub-sub queues, and isolated behind different API gateways. These containers are orchestrated using Kubernetes and monitored with APM via Datadog. Our CI/CD pipelines are automated using GitHub actions, ArgoCD, and our own open-source config management tool Joy. All infrastructure configuration is managed using Infrastructure as Code via Pulumi (similar to Terraform, but using a rich and extensible programming language and API, in our case, TypeScript), ArgoCD and Crossplane.
We strive to implement the best emerging DevOps practices, such as GitOps, Internal Developer Platforms, and Infrastructure as Code. We believe that DevOps goes beyond the mere automation of pipelines; it should encompass all areas of the business, empowering its actors and stakeholders to actively contribute to the organization's overall success.
We are looking for a passionate Team Lead, Platform who shares our core principles and wishes to join our team. You'll lead and mentor a team of platform developers while driving the vision and execution of our Internal Developer Platform, enabling rapid business growth and sustainable scalability as we continue to scale our modern mortgage platform of the future. This person must have the technical and interpersonal skills to take our Internal Developer Platform to the next level.
What you'll be doing
You will apply software engineering principles to platform development, focusing on building the tools, infrastructure, and developer experience that empower every team at nesto to move fast and with confidence. You will lead and manage a team of platform developers, ensuring efficient project execution, high-quality deliverables, and effective collaboration across cross-functional teams. You will lead by example with hands-on contributions to our platform’s codebase, developing and reviewing code, without becoming a bottleneck for the team's progress.
- Internal Developer Platform: Drive the evolution of our Internal Developer Platform (IDP), continuously improving developer productivity, scalability, and sustainable growth.
- Work closely with different internal consumers of our value stream to understand their respective tools and processes, in order to define, develop, and deliver efficient solutions adapted to their needs.
- Shape and build our IDP in the form of Golang CLIs and microservices, and observability tooling.
- Continuously improve the developer experience at nesto, identifying gaps and expanding platform capabilities to meet the needs of a growing engineering organization.
- Infrastructure & Automation: Create sustainable infrastructure and automation practices that eliminate bottlenecks, reduce toil, and position the platform for long-term scale.
- Enhance our infrastructure automation (Pulumi, TypeScript, Crossplane) and mature our cloud infrastructure to ensure it is secure, compliant, and cost-effective.
- Maintain and optimize our CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) and deployment processes (Kubernetes, Helm, ArgoCD).
- Drive the remediation of security issues raised by tools and advisors.
- Team Leadership & Developer Empowerment: Lead, mentor, and grow a team of platform developers while fostering a culture of quality, ownership, and continuous learning.
- Proactively identify and clear roadblocks for the team, fostering a productive and efficient work environment.
- Guide and train development teams on best practices for platform engineering, infrastructure, and developer tooling.
- Conduct regular meetings with direct reports, providing constructive feedback on their work, assisting team members in setting goals, and working with the engineering manager to ensure employee growth and retention objectives are met.
- Foster a culture of open-mindedness and continuous learning, keeping the team on the lookout for new practices and technologies.
- Produce quality and performance metrics on the software development life cycle (SDLC) process, identifying areas for improvement and implementing necessary changes.
- Cross-Team Collaboration & Platform Ownership: Work closely with development teams to integrate platform considerations and consult on system design, capacity planning, and architectural conversations.
- Drive the team's focus on high-impact projects, aligning platform investments with organizational goals and objectives.
- Collaborate effectively with the product team and Back-End team to manage scope and deliverables for the technical side of the roadmap.
- Participate in system design consulting, platform management, and capacity planning.
- Make independent decisions for the team, demonstrating the ability to handle complex management situations and provide effective resolutions.
Who we're looking for
- You have 7+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure with any of the top cloud providers, ideally GCP.
- You have development experience, ideally with Golang and TypeScript/JS.
- You have proven leadership experience, with a demonstrated ability to guide and mentor team members.
- You are familiar with CI/CD, Kubernetes, Docker, Helm, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/Pulumi), and networking.
- You're comfortable using AI tools to boost your productivity. We actively use and encourage the use of AI in our day-to-day work, but we hold ourselves accountable for the quality, security, and correctness of whatever we ship, AI-assisted or not.
- You are proficient in producing quality and performance metrics on the SDLC process, and implementing improvements based on the analysis.
- You have prior experience working within a high-growth B2B or SaaS business model.
- You possess exceptional interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills that support effective collaboration across engineering teams.
- You enjoy both the big picture and the small details, and have a deliberate, long-term approach to systems thinking.
- You have a proven track record in providing constructive feedback, setting goals, and contributing to the growth and retention of team members.
- You have a passion for continuous learning and enjoy sharing knowledge with others.
- Ideally, you have knowledge or interest in security best practices such as vulnerability scanning and intrusion detection.
