Behavioral Specialist
As a Behavioral Specialist at NCFL, you’ll:
- Observe, evaluate, and assess individuals to identify behavioral needs and determine when a behavior support plan may be appropriate
- Conduct behavioral assessments and provide recommendations as requested
- Develop and/or write behavior support plans and de-escalation protocols
- Advise, train, and support staff in implementing behavior plans and effective behavioral strategies
- Observe staff interactions with individuals and provide guidance to promote positive and appropriate support
- Review ABC data, analyze behavioral trends, and run reports as requested
- Review NCATs and understand client tier levels to support appropriate behavioral interventions
- Review and/or complete progress notes for group homes and day programs
- Complete monthly behavioral reports and provide regular or special reports to the Director of Behavioral Services
- Conduct behavioral orientation training for new hires
- Participate in the development of ISPs and IDT meetings as requested
- Coordinate meetings with staff, parents, guardians, Support Coordinators, and other professionals as needed
- Communicate with physicians, psychiatrists, and other healthcare or behavioral professionals as requested
- Attend psychiatric appointments virtually or in person when needed
- Attend dinner visits as part of the onboarding process for new clients
- Review ADL checklists and bed checks for group homes as requested
- Facilitate day habilitation groups virtually and/or in person as requested
- Attend staff and manager meetings as requested
- Participate in the behavioral on-call system as scheduled
- Maintain current knowledge of applicable licensing requirements and support compliance with agency and state regulations
- Cooperate with NCFL and Department staff during inspections and investigations
- Establish and maintain a professional network with behavioral and other related professionals to benefit the individuals we support
- Learn and utilize Foothold and Progress Notes systems
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Behavioral Services or designee in the best interest of the individuals we support and NCFL
What You’ll Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Psychology, Special Education, Sociology, Guidance and Counseling, Social Work, or a related behavioral science field
- One to two years of supervised training in behavioral assessment and behavior plan development
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities preferred
- Strong understanding of behavioral principles and the ability to apply them in practical settings
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong collaboration and conflict-resolution skills
- Effective problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Strong organization and time-management skills
- Professionalism, flexibility, and the ability to adapt to changing priorities
- Basic computer skills and the ability to maintain accurate documentation and reports
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, as hours may vary based on appointments, client needs, and program schedules
- Ability to work a 45-hour-per-week schedule
