Primary Function of the Position
The 4–8 Intervention Teacher is responsible for providing targeted math and/or literacy intervention to scholars who require additional academic support.
Under the supervision of the Assistant Principal, the Intervention Teacher screens scholars, identifies appropriate interventions, provides individual and small-group instruction, monitors progress, and uses data to adjust instruction. The Intervention Teacher collaborates with classroom teachers, Academic Coaches, and school leadership to strengthen intervention systems and improve scholar achievement.
Successful Intervention Teachers will demonstrate integrity, a strong work ethic, accountability, and a commitment to NMA’s core principles. They will understand the unique strengths and needs of immigrant and refugee communities and maintain high expectations for all scholars.
Position Responsibilities
Intervention and Instruction
- Screen scholars to identify appropriate math and/or literacy interventions.
- Provide targeted individual and small-group instruction for identified scholars.
- Develop and deliver effective lessons designed to improve math and/or literacy proficiency.
- Use research-based instructional strategies and interventions aligned with scholar needs.
- Differentiate instruction based on scholar performance, readiness, and individual needs.
- Use curriculum and materials that reflect the diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds of the scholars served.
- Establish learning goals and collaboratively track scholar progress toward those goals.
- Maintain high expectations for scholar learning, participation, and growth.
Assessment, Data, and Intervention Systems
- Maintain accurate records and use scholar data to make instructional decisions.
- Regularly monitor scholar progress and adjust interventions based on results.
- Document ADSIS interventions and supports for scholars receiving math and/or literacy intervention.
- Collaborate with teachers and school leaders to strengthen systems of academic intervention.
- Continually evaluate and improve intervention practices based on scholar outcomes.
- Maintain a working knowledge of applicable Title I programs and requirements.
Scholar and Family Support
- Foster a culture of learning that embraces the strengths of all scholars and supports them in achieving their academic goals.
- Build positive and professional relationships with scholars.
- Model the RHINO Way and reinforce schoolwide expectations using PBIS strategies.
- Proactively engage families in supporting scholar academic growth.
- Support scholars in developing confidence, persistence, and ownership of their learning.
Collaboration and Professional Responsibilities
- Partner with Academic Coaches to continually develop instructional practice.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to support effective intervention and differentiation practices.
- Coach and support general education teachers in the use of best practices in math and/or literacy intervention.
- Actively participate in intervention team meetings, academic leadership meetings, and other school meetings as assigned.
- Maintain a growth mindset and positive approach to problem solving.
- Set professional development goals and participate in coaching and professional learning opportunities.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding scholar and family information.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education required.
- Current Minnesota teaching license required.
- Minimum of three years of teaching experience required.
- Strong knowledge of math and/or literacy intervention practices.
- Ability to analyze scholar data and use results to guide instruction.
- Strong communication, collaboration, organization, and relationship-building skills.
- Experience working in a high-performing, fast-paced environment preferred.
- Experience working with multilingual learners and diverse communities preferred.
