About the role

As Junior Legal Counsel, you will provide practical and commercially focused legal support across the NIOA Group. Working under the guidance of the General Counsel and broader legal team, you'll assist with contract review and drafting, legal research, compliance activities, governance matters, intellectual property support and the provision of legal advice to internal stakeholders.

This role is ideally suited to a recently admitted lawyer through to approximately three years' post-admission experience who is eager to learn, willing to take initiative and enjoys solving legal problems in a commercial setting.

What you'll do

• Support the General Counsel and legal team to deliver practical, timely and commercially focused legal advice.
• Conduct legal research, monitor legal developments and prepare clear advice, summaries and internal briefs.
• Draft, review and support negotiation of contracts, NDAs, tender documents, correspondence and other legal documents.
• Assist with development of legal policies, templates, procedures, training materials and delivering internal training.
• Maintain legal registers, files, compliance deadlines, matter tracking and reporting.
• Support intellectual property matters, including preparation of draft applications where required and managing the application renewal process.
• Contribute to legal process improvement and undertake other reasonable duties as directed by the General Counsel.

Qualifications

• Admission as a legal practitioner in Australia and hold a current practising certificate.
• Recently admitted to approximately three years post-admission experience, in a law firm or in-house legal environment.
• Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and communicate professionally with stakeholders.
• Contract drafting, interpretation and negotiation experience is preferred but not essential.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Teams and SharePoint, with the ability to confidently use legal or document management systems.
