Applied R&D (AR) consists of target-oriented research either with the goal of solving a particular problem / answering a specific question or for multi-discipline design, development, and implementation of hardware, software, and systems including maintenance support. Supplies techno-economic consulting to clients. AR work is characterised by its detailed and complex nature in order to systematically combine existing knowledge and practices to further developing and incrementally improving products, operational processes, and customer-specific feature development.

Responsibilities

• Investigate hardware failures on Nokia Optics products returned from the field by conducting root cause analyses and establishing corrective and preventive actions.
• Collaborate with problem escalation teams to analyze hardware issues reported from the field.
• Use sophisticated AI tools to find patterns and correlations.
• Partner with customer quality teams to collect and analyze data on field failures.
• Work closely with the Nokia Reliability team to perform in-depth analyses of root causes, including chemical-related issues (e.g., corrosion), and assist in assessing field risks.
• Engage with Nokia component suppliers to investigate failures and identify root causes, as well as define corrective and preventive actions.
• Conduct horizontal analyses to determine if similar failures exist in other Nokia Optics products.
• Collaborate with HW design teams to incorporate lessons learned from field issues into new designs, improving product reliability.
• Provide clear and concise updates to internal stakeholders and management.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong knowledge of optical communication products and standard optical testing strategies.
• Proficiency in circuit design and troubleshooting.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to provide clear updates to management and explain complex technical issues to non-technical audiences.
• A proactive problem-solving mindset, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple challenges simultaneously.
• Initiative to collaborate with colleagues across teams around the world to access specialized expertise when needed.
• A strong sense of urgency and commitment to resolving problems quickly and effectively.
