    Job description

    The community of Neils Harbour is looking for up to 2 full-time family physicians to join a rural practice, located at Buchanan Memorial Community Health Centre (BMCHC).  Situated at the top of the world-famous Cabot Trail on Cape Breton Island, this rural medicine opportunity offers a very manageable work-life balance in an outdoor adventure paradise.

    The modern office space at the BMCHC was designed with the input from all disciplines to provide an integrated approach to care and delivery, including inpatient, outpatient, ED, and clinic-based services. The 10-bed short-term care facility serves a permanent population of 2,800 from 13 nearby coastal communities (Cape Smokey to Meat Cove). It also contains a community service wing that houses offices for Public Health, Continuing Care, a social worker, Addiction Services, and Palliative Care.

    Family Physicians may participate in the teaching of medical learners through Dalhousie University. It is equipped with an Accuro Electronic Medical Record and all required hardware.

    Responsibilities

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Deliver comprehensive primary health care services to patients of all ages and stages of health or illness
    • Work with other providers to provide inpatient care, nursing home care, after-hours access and emergency department coverage
    • Provide low volume after hours call
    • Participate in quality improvement and evaluation activities

    Expected Hours

    • full-time / part-time

    Remuneration

    • $375,000 - $400,000 CAD
    • Remuneration type is either Longitudinal Family Medicine payment model or a Fee for Service payment model.

    • Must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
    • Must be eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)
    • Memberwhip with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) will be required;
    • Required certifications include ACLS and BCLS

    Community Details

    Neils Harbour is a small fishing village in northern Cape Breton Island, in Victoria County, Nova Scotia, Canada. It is located between Ingonish and Dingwall, just south of the Cape Breton Highlands National Park.

    Known as the top of the Cabot Trail, this area is a hidden gem for tourists. The area's stunning ocean views and rugged shorelines make for some of the world’s best scenery. The numerous trails embedded amongst the trees and waterways invites hikers, mountain bikers, skiers and cyclists to explore some of nature’s best in all seasons. All of this is anchored by the world-class Highland Links golf course, and close to beach and golf resort communities along the coast.

    The community of Neils Harbour and the surrounding area is positioned for growth with the expanding Cape Smokey Ski Resort featuring Atlantic Canada’s first gondola, making the area a four- season attraction.
