About The Role

Please note this role is based onsite in Narvik.

The Deputy Manager is the Infrastructure Operations Manager’s right hand on site, sitting one level beneath them and taking ownership of the operational side of the data centre so the Manager can focus on the administrative and strategic side.

This is a hands-on operational role rather than a purely administrative one. You will organise the team day to day, keep the white space running as it should, own documentation, SOPs and training, and support deployment handovers. You will not hold sole line-management responsibility, but you will step up to cover rota and absence management when the Manager is away.

The role works office hours, Monday to Friday, with National public holidays as per location, plus an alternating weekly on-call rotation with the Infrastructure Operations Manager for call-out situations. You will report to the Infrastructure Operations Manager and work closely with engineers, operators, the deployment team, and on-site vendors.

What You'll Be Doing

Site Operations

• Take day-to-day ownership of operations on site, making sure the white space is running as it should.
• Act as the operational decision-maker during day shift, escalating to the Infrastructure Operations Manager where appropriate.
• Oversee installation, configuration, and maintenance of HPC and GPU systems alongside the engineering team.
• Identify and address operational risks proactively, and propose improvements that make the site run more efficiently.

Team Coordination & Development

• Organise and coordinate the operations team day to day across engineers, operators, and partner staff.
• Provide training and guidance to junior team members so the site is covered by people who know the procedures.
• Manage the rota and absence cover, and deputise for the Infrastructure Operations Manager when they are away.

Documentation & Standards

• Own and maintain site documentation and SOPs, keeping them accurate as the site changes.
• Make sure procedures are followed consistently, and that new starters have what they need to work to them.
• Feed operational lessons back into standards and training.

Deployments & Vendor Coordination

• Work closely with the deployment team through handover, making sure work is completed and properly transferred into operations.
• Coordinate day-to-day alignment between the site team and on-site vendors.
• Act as an operational point of contact during day shift.

On-Call & Incident Response

• Participate in an alternating weekly on-call rotation with the Infrastructure Operations Manager.
• Respond to P1 and P2 call-out situations, coordinating the response and escalating where needed.
• Contribute to root cause analysis and follow-up actions after incidents.

About You

• Proven operational experience in a data centre environment, with genuine technical insight into how the site runs.
• Strong working knowledge of HPC and GPU installations, including hardware configuration and network architecture.
• Advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills, with the judgement to know when to escalate.
• A collaborative operator who works well inside a team and can influence without formal authority.
• Comfortable relocating to, and living in, Narvik.
• Adaptable to a fast-moving scale-up where processes are still being built, rather than a large and highly structured organisation.
• Organised and diligent, with a bias towards documenting and standardising rather than firefighting.
• Willing to participate in an on-call rotation.

Nice to Have

• Experience coordinating or leading a team, including rota and absence management.
• Certifications in data centre management (e.g. CDCP, CDCS, or similar).
• Hands-on experience with NVIDIA GPUs, CUDA, and AI frameworks.
• Experience working alongside third-party or partner staff on site.
• Norwegian language skills.

Why this role matters

The site runs around the clock, and the Manager cannot be across every operational decision. The Deputy holds the day-to-day operation together — keeping the white space running, making sure the team knows the procedures and the procedures are written down, and providing continuity when the Manager is unavailable.
