    Job description

    The Cabinet Office

Associate, Policy - NSW Office of Artificial Intelligence

You. At the centre of big ideas.

    • Help shape how NSW Government approaches artificial intelligence
    • Bring strong policy skills and curiosity about emerging technology to a new team tackling complex policy and technology challenges
    • Ongoing, Clerk Grade 7/8 ($116,981 - $129,492 per annum) opportunity based at Martin Place, Sydney CBD, with flexible working available.

Join the Office of AI and help shape policy on one of the most significant technological shifts facing government today.

    About the Team

Artificial intelligence is changing the way governments, industries and communities operate.

The newly established Office of AI works in The Cabinet Office to strengthen whole-of-government leadership and provide coordination and oversight of NSW’s AI agenda. The Office leads the NSW Government’s public policy response to artificial intelligence, advises government on emerging risks, regulation and standards, examines the economic, industry and societal impacts of AI and coordinates NSW positions with other jurisdictions.

The Office works across government to ensure NSW is well positioned to harness the opportunities of AI while managing risks in the public interest.

This is a rare opportunity to join a growing team at an early stage and contribute to work that will influence how government considers, adopts and responds to AI in the years ahead. You'll work on matters attracting significant interest and contribute to outcomes that balance innovation, public value and the responsible use of technology.

    About the Role

As our new Associate, Policy, you will help inform government decision-making on the most significant technological developments in artificial intelligence.

Use your passion, knowledge, technical aptitude and curiosity for AI alongside your policy and strategy nous to work on complex and fast-moving issues. You'll undertake research, analyse proposals, prepare briefings and advice, and collaborate with stakeholders across government. The role offers exposure to high-profile initiatives and the opportunity to contribute to work that has real impact across NSW.

You'll join the Office of AI within the Shaping Future Data & Digital Branch in the Energy, Environment and Evidence Group. Working alongside policy, strategy and technology specialists, you'll help identify emerging issues, assess their implications and contribute to practical, evidence-based solutions that deliver public value.

This role is well suited to a policy professional who enjoys solving complex problems, exercising sound judgement and turning detailed information into clear, actionable advice.
