    Job description

    NW Works Mission:

    Job Summary:

    Mail Clerk 1 is responsible for all phases of mail production and distribution within the instructed guidelines and timeframes of the Mailroom Supervisor.  This includes sorting; researching and delivering the mail to designated mail stops.

    Essential Functions:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

    · Accepts mail from mail carriers and sort for security inspection.  Logs and labels packages for transfer to mail room.

    · Searches packages for security concerns or inspection. 

    · Research mail not properly addressed or properly coded

    · Removes trash and keeps work area clean and organized

    · Delivers interoffice mail and picks up mail from mail stops

    · Performs x-ray scan using a x-ray machine to scan all mail and packages for security of customers if required by contract

    · Performs job in a safe manner, with concern for others and a desire to increase production

    · If needed, process machineable mail (folding, inserting, sealing, and opening)

    · Follows HAZMAT procedures for handling potentially hazardous mail

    · May require handling accountable mail

    · May require opening and reading mail and forwarding to appropriate location

    · May require processing requests for publications

    · Performs duties of a mail meterer on an as needed basis.

    · Participates in meetings, retreats, in-services, workshops, conferences, and committees as required.

    · Maintains accurate time records and related documentation and submits paperwork by established deadlines.

    · Reports to work on time, prepared to perform assigned duties, and maintains a positive and professional attitude.

    · Serves as a backup if needed to the Mailroom Supervisor.

    · Adheres to all NW Works policies and procedures.

    · Adheres to and represents agency standards for professional dress, grooming, and demeanor.

    · Accepts and performs other duties as required.

    Minimum Education and Experience:

    · High School Diploma or GED

    Preferred Experience:

    One year of experience in a related field; experience working in a mail center is preferred.

    Work Environment and Physical Demands:

    • Must be able to work on routine and repetitive tasks for long periods with minimum supervision. 
    • Must be able to stand, reach, and walk for long periods of time
    • Ability to make routine decisions regarding mail-related issues and questions
    • Must meet lifting requirements per contract at times, the position requires transporting mail between buildings during inclement weather.
