As an Asset Liability Management (ALM) Portfolio Intelligence Intern, you'll gain valuable exposure to portfolio analytics, risk monitoring, financial modelling, and market research.     To excel in this role, you'll need to be analytical, intellectually curious, and comfortable working with both financial and market data. You'll collaborate closely with portfolio managers and stakeholders to monitor portfolio performance, analyse risk exposures, and develop tools that enhance decision-making. Your ability to combine financial knowledge, programming skills, and data analytics will help drive efficiencies and generate valuable insights for the team.

    What You Do

    Your responsibilities will include:

    • Portfolio Analytics: support the monitoring and analysis of ALM portfolios, including Profit & Loss (P&L), issuer limits, PV01, CS01, and other key portfolio risk metrics
    • Financial Modelling: develop, maintain, and enhance financial models used for portfolio analysis, scenario assessment, and investment decision support
    • Process Automation: build and maintain VBA- and Python-based tools to improve workflow efficiency, automate reporting processes, and strengthen analytical capabilities
    • Dashboard Development: create and enhance Tableau dashboards and analytics tools to provide actionable insights on portfolio performance, market developments, and investment opportunities
    • Data Mining & Analysis: analyse market data, economic indicators, and company financial information to support portfolio monitoring and investment research
    • Predictive Analytics: support forecasting, trend analysis, and predictive modelling initiatives to identify potential risks and opportunities
    • Market Research: monitor financial markets and industry developments to generate insights and support the evaluation of trade and investment ideas
    • Reporting & Administrative Support: assist in preparing management reports, portfolio updates, presentations, and other materials required for business reviews and decision-making
    • Ad-hoc Projects: provide support on strategic initiatives, data analytics projects, and process improvement activities as assigned

    Who You Work With

    The Asset Liability Management Portfolio Intelligence Unit supports the management of the bank's investment portfolios through analytics, research, risk monitoring, and data-driven insights. You'll work alongside portfolio managers, treasury professionals, and analysts who oversee balance sheet investments and portfolio risk management. Through this role, you'll gain valuable exposure to portfolio management, financial markets, treasury activities, and the analytical tools that support investment decision-making within a leading financial institution.

    Who You Are

    • Open to learning and feedback
    • Strong interest in financial markets, economics, and portfolio management
    • Good understanding of financial modelling and market concepts
    • Strong analytical and quantitative skills
    • Proficient in Microsoft Excel with experience in VBA and Python programming
    • Familiarity with Tableau and dashboard development
    • Knowledge of data analytics, predictive modelling, and forecasting techniques
    • Comfortable working with large datasets and performing quantitative analysis
    • Able to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills
    • Detail-oriented with a strong problem-solving mindset
    • Currently pursuing an undergraduate or postgraduate degree

    Learning Objectives

    This internship will provide you with:

    • Exposure to portfolio management and balance sheet analytics within a leading financial institution
    • Hands-on experience monitoring portfolio performance and key risk measures such as issuer limits, PV01, and CS01
    • Opportunities to develop financial modelling, forecasting, and quantitative analysis skills
    • Experience building automation tools and analytical solutions using VBA, Python, and Tableau
    • Exposure to market research, economic analysis, and investment idea generation
    • Opportunities to develop dashboarding, business intelligence, and data visualisation capabilities
    • Experience applying data analytics and predictive modelling techniques to real-world financial datasets
    • Exposure to collaboration with portfolio managers, treasury professionals, and business stakeholders
    • A deeper understanding of how data, technology, and market intelligence support portfolio management and risk oversight within Global Markets
    • Practical experience contributing to strategic initiatives that enhance decision-making, efficiency, and portfolio performance across the business
