Frontend Software Engineer – ACE
The Company
OctaiPipe is on a mission to revolutionise the optimisation of energy in data centres through decentralised artificial intelligence (AI). To do this, OctaiPipe is harnessing an elegant but revolutionary idea. Rather than move the data from the source, move the algorithms to the data to learn at the data source. This learning can be achieved with the intelligence of many devices through novel federated AI technology. OctaiPipe is developing the AI for Cooling Efficiency (ACE) application to be deployed using its own in-house distributed AI platform.
The Role
We are looking for a Frontend Software Engineer to join the ACE team and help build the user-facing applications at the heart of our flagship AI for Cooling Efficiency product.
You will design and develop the interfaces through which customers and internal teams interact with ACE, turning complex operational, sensor and AI-generated data into intuitive, reliable and actionable experiences.
Working primarily with React and TypeScript, you will take ownership of frontend features from design and architecture through to implementation, testing and deployment. You will work closely with Product, Design, Software Engineering and Applied Science to translate technically complex requirements into high-quality product experiences that can operate reliably in real-world data centre environments.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Design, build and maintain production-grade frontend applications using React, TypeScript and Next.
- Build intuitive interfaces that make complex operational, time-series and AI-generated data easy for users to understand and act upon.
- Develop dashboards, data visualisations, workflows and monitoring experiences, to operate and understand ACE across customer sites.
- Work with large datasets, representing the data on graphs/floor plans. Apply relevant caching.
- Collaborate closely with Product, Design, Applied Science and backend engineers to turn product requirements and technical concepts into robust frontend solutions.
- Own features end-to-end, from technical design and estimation through implementation, testing, deployment and ongoing improvement.
- Integrate frontend applications with REST APIs and backend services, handling asynchronous data, authentication, permissions and application state effectively.
- Build reusable components and contribute to a scalable, consistent frontend architecture and design system.
- Write clean, well-tested and maintainable code, with a strong focus on performance, reliability and usability.
- Contribute to code reviews, technical discussions and decisions around frontend architecture and engineering standards.
- Help diagnose and resolve product and customer issues, including those arising from real-world deployment environments.
- Diagnose and solve performance issues within the application.
Your Profile
- Strong commercial experience developing production applications with React and TypeScript, preferably with Next.js.
- Excellent knowledge of modern JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML and CSS.
- Strong understanding of React fundamentals, component architecture, hooks, state management and modern frontend application patterns.
- Experience designing and building reusable, maintainable component systems.
- Experience integrating frontend applications with REST APIs and other backend services.
- Strong understanding of asynchronous application behaviour, data fetching, caching and state management.
- Experience building responsive, accessible and performant web applications.
- A strong approach to frontend testing, including unit, integration and end-to-end testing.
- Experience with modern frontend build, package management and development tooling.
- Strong Git/GitHub version control practices.
