Senior Mission Planning Software Test Engineer - B-52

Position Summary

Odyssey has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mission Planning Software Test Engineer (SE‑4) supporting the 96 CTG / 45 TS at Eglin AFB, FL under the TMAS III contract.

This role provides senior‑level mission planning and software testing expertise for bomber platforms, specifically B‑1, B‑2, and B‑52. The Test Engineer will apply extensive military aircrew mission planning knowledge to support software evaluations, develop testing methodologies, and advise the customer on mission planning software quality. Responsibilities include planning, coordinating, executing, and evaluating test events for automated and manual mission planning tools.

This is a full‑time onsite position at Eglin AFB with travel up to 25% CONUS/OCONUS.

Responsibilities

Duties include, but not limited to: 

• Plan, coordinate, and monitor test projects requiring modification of standard practices or adaptation of instrumentation for valid results
• Plan tests, establish criteria, assess program effectiveness, and analyze unusual testing conditions or problems
• Support development, production, design, and procurement efforts that impact test activity efficiency
• Conduct software evaluations that may result in new testing techniques or assessments supporting large program decisions
• Demonstrate aviation or mission planning experience with relevant software functions, including operational use of comparable systems
• Maintain working knowledge of Technical Orders (TOs) and aircraft performance charts
• Provide mission planning expertise to resolve customer questions and issues and serve as the final authority on software quality
• Maintain working knowledge of mission planning software under test, including existing, previous, future, or associated versions
• Conduct mission planning using JMPS software (highly desirable)
• Apply extensive aircrew experience to evaluate manual mission planning procedures and software‑automated planning techniques
• Utilize test methodology experience, including unit, integration, system, and acceptance testing; be familiar with Air Force directives, CMMI, and AGILE processes
• Maintain experience in automated mission planning software
• Demonstrate software experience in Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10, and UNIX environments

Qualifications

Citizenship: Must be a US citizen

Minimum Required Qualifications

Clearance: ActiveSecret clearance; must be able to obtain and maintain TS/SCI

Education:Master’s Degree in a technical field

Years of Experience: 10 years of relevant experience (experience may substitute for education).

Certifications:DoD 8140 certification (Security+CE or higher) within 6 months of hire

• Thorough knowledge and extensive experience as military aircrew performing bomber mission planning (B‑1, B‑2, or B‑52)
• Ability to lead, direct, and work effectively within engineering/test teams
• Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal formats
• Ability to work extended hours when mission requires

Preferred Qualifications

Clearance: TS/SCI

• JMPS mission planning experience
• Familiarity with USAF developmental test processes related to software acquisition and evaluation
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

Technical Skills

• Extensive mission planning experience as a military aircrew member (pilot or navigator) on B‑1, B‑2, or B‑52 aircraft
• Thorough knowledge of bomber mission planning procedures and techniques
• Ability to plan and evaluate complex software test projects
• Familiarity with JMPS mission planning software (highly desired)
• Experience with test methodologies (unit, integration, system, acceptance)
• Understanding of Air Force directives, CMMI, and AGILE processes
• Ability to apply operational fighter/bomber experience to software assessments
• Experience using mission planning‑related software across Windows and UNIX environments
• Ability to interpret aircraft performance charts and Technical Orders

Interpersonal Skills

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively on a team and lead/guide others
• Strong communication skills, including technical writing, briefings, and formal presentations
• Ability to advise customers on mission planning issues and serve as final authority on software quality
• Willingness to support extended hours, weekends, and holidays to meet mission needs
• Ability to travel for required meetings, tests, and program reviews
