The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) provides comprehensive, evidence-based care to patients within the outpatient infusion center, medical oncology, and hematology practice. This position combines direct patient care, infusion center oversight, urgent symptom management, and clinical collaboration with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, pharmacist, and interdisciplinary team members.
The APP will work two weekend days in the outpatient infusion center and two weekdays in outpatient hematology and oncology clinics. The role serves as a key clinical resource for infusion nursing staff, evaluates and manages infusion-related complications, and provides timely assessment and treatment for oncology and hematology patients requiring urgent care services.
There are two options for this opening. The candidate has their choice of either working two ten hour shifts weekends only or two ten hour shifts during the week and two ten hour shifts during the weekend.
Essential Responsibilities
Infusion Center Practice (Weekend Coverage)
- Clinical Oversight
- Serve as the on-site APP overseeing daily clinical operations of the outpatient infusion center.

- Collaborate with infusion nurses, pharmacists, and physicians to ensure safe delivery of systemic therapies, blood products, and supportive care treatments.
- Provide clinical decision-making support for treatment-related concerns.
- Review patient conditions and treatment readiness as needed.
Infusion Reaction Management
- Respond promptly to infusion and hypersensitivity reactions.
- Assess severity of reactions and initiate appropriate interventions.
- Order and administer emergency and supportive medications according to protocols.
- Coordinate transfer to higher levels of care when clinically indicated.
- Complete clinical documentation and communicate with primary oncology teams regarding events and follow-up plans.
- Serve as a readily available clinical resource for infusion nursing staff.
- Evaluate treatment-related symptoms and acute changes in patient condition.
- Assist with treatment plan clarification and urgent clinical questions.
- Support implementation of oncology treatment and supportive care protocols.
Oncology Urgent Care Services
- Evaluate walk-in and scheduled urgent patients presenting with oncology-related symptoms.
- Fever and infection concerns

- Chemotherapy toxicities
- Cytopenias
- Fatigue and weakness
- Respiratory symptoms
- Venous access device complications
- Order and interpret diagnostic studies including laboratory tests and imaging.
- Develop treatment and disposition plans, including outpatient management, infusion-based interventions, emergency department referral, or hospital admission.
Medical Oncology & Hematology Clinic Practice (Weekday Coverage)
- Direct Patient Care
- Conduct comprehensive new patient, follow-up, and treatment evaluation visits.
- Perform history and physical examinations.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with supervising physicians.
- Monitor treatment response and disease progression.
- Manage acute and chronic treatment toxicities.
Hematology and Oncology Management:
- Evaluate patients with benign hematologic disorders and malignancies.
- Manage supportive care needs across the cancer continuum.
- Review laboratory results, pathology reports, and diagnostic studies.
- Provide survivorship, symptom management, and end-of-life care discussions as appropriate.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, and ancillary services.
- Facilitate transitions of care.
- Coordinate referrals and multidisciplinary services.
- Participate in tumor boards and care conferences as appropriate.
Additional Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
- Support departmental patient safety efforts.
- Assist with development and implementation of clinical protocols and pathways.
- Participate in APP, oncology, and infusion service meetings.
- Maintain licensure, certifications, and continuing education requirements.
- Master's or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
- Current state NP license.
- National board certification.
- DEA registration and prescriptive authority.
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Current state PA license.
- NCCPA certification.
- DEA registration and prescriptive authority.
- Minimum 2 years of oncology, hematology, infusion, urgent care, emergency medicine, hospital medicine, or related advanced practice experience preferred.
- Experience managing oncology treatment toxicities and infusion reactions preferred.
