Job Summary:

The College of Agricultural Sciences | Agricultural Education, Communication & Sciences invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position.

The incumbent in this position will focus on providing innovative development and instruction in Agriculture and Natural Resources Communication. The individual will teach, recruit, develop curriculum, and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, conduct a nationally recognized research and scholarly program and engage in service activities that further the growth of our Agricultural Education, Communication, and Sciences Department. This person will be helping develop curriculum for an agricultural and natural resources communication undergraduate major for both in-person and on Ecampus. This person will collaborate with faculty in the department and other colleges on research, teaching, and curriculum development.

Scholarship is intellectual work in research, teaching, or extension that is shared with peers in journals, in formal peer-reviewed presentations at professional meetings, or comparable peer-evaluated forums.

The position will support the university, College of Agricultural Sciences, and department of Agricultural Education, Communication, and Sciences strategic plans.

This position carries the general and specific responsibilities of a faculty member described in the Faculty Handbook and the promotion and tenure guidelines of Oregon State University. These include effective research and extension programs, demonstrable scholarship and creative activity, service contributions, and active professional development.

Key Responsibilities

• Teach and create curriculum for undergraduate and graduate coursework within the department specific to Agricultural and Natural Resource Communications
• Design and conduct research and scholarship leading to new knowledge related to Agricultural and Natural Resource Communications
• Actively seek extramural grants and contracts supporting research and areas of focus within the department.
• Provide service to the department, college, university, industry, and profession through committee service and leadership as appropriate and requested by the department, college and university administration.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

• A doctorate degree in agricultural communications, communication(s), life science communications, mass communications, journalism, or closely related field.
• Evidence of successful teaching experience in agricultural communications or natural resources communication, OR successful teaching experience in other fields of communication with expertise in science, including science communication, mass communication, life science communication, or journalism.
• Evidence of a successful publication record commensurate with the expectations of a tenure-track position.
• Demonstrated success and commitment to effective teaching.
• Demonstrated success and commitment to research in agricultural, natural resources, and science communication contexts.
• Demonstrated success and commitment to scholarship.
• Demonstrated success and commitment to service.
• Commitment to promoting and enhancing inclusive excellence and ensuring that all individuals have the opportunity to flourish.
• Demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

• Demonstrated expertise in digital communications (social media, digital media, photography, etc.)
• Demonstrated ability to innovate, develop, and implement new programs.
• Demonstrated success in undergraduate and graduate student advising.
• Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of types of learners in diverse settings, such as online education, continuing professional development, et cetera.
• Life experience, education, or training that broadens capacity to equalize student success or impact underserved communities.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with local, state, and national stakeholders.
• Experience with working in the Adobe Suite.
• Demonstrated experience, knowledge, or interest in engaging with agricultural industries, organizations, and communities, with a willingness to develop and maintain relationships with agricultural stakeholders.
• Research experience or demonstrated interest in communication related to rural mental health, agricultural health and well-being, or other issues affecting rural and agricultural communities.
