Job Summary:

Oregon State University's Center for Advocacy, Prevention & Education (CAPE) is seeking a CAPE Specialist to fill a full-time, 9-month, professional faculty vacancy at our Cascades Campus in Bend, OR.

This position will work both work as confidential & legally privileged advocate and will be providing prevention & education outreach related to gender-based violence and sexual health.
This position focuses on comprehensive gender based violence prevention and education (including sexual health), using theory driven and evidence informed practices to foster safe, supportive and inclusive learning and living environments at Oregon State University Cascades. Additionally, this position provides confidential and legally privileged advocacy services (including safety planning, academic & housing support, accompaniment support for medical & legal needs, emotional support and other resources/referrals) to those in the University community who have experienced gender-based violence (sexual assault, dating/domestic violence, stalking and sexual harassment/discrimination).

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in the creation, planning, implementation, and facilitation of CAPE programming and community-based events and activities
• Facilitate CAPE workshops to various groups across campus, on the topics of gender-based violence, sexual health, consent, survivor support, trauma informed care, etc.
• Provides confidential, survivor-centered advocacy to those who have experienced complex or complicated interpersonal violence situations, including experiences that occurred prior to a student’s arrival to the university. Connects survivors to various campus and community entities providing services (such as Counseling and Psychological Services, University Housing and Dining, the Bridge, Student Health & Wellness and the Office of Equal Opportunity and Access, etc); accompanies survivors as needed throughout reporting processes (Title IX, Equal Opportunity and Access, and law enforcement) and evidence collection exams; and directly provides academic and housing accommodations as needed. Advocates connect survivors to broader systems, and provide emotional support and care throughout the process.
• Build partnerships and collaborate with key stakeholders on and off campus to develop comprehensive sexual health, gender based violence prevention, and survivor support programming
• Assist with assessment efforts and data collection, analytic strategies and report writing
• Serve on committees within SHS, CAPE and other relevant university and community committees.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as public health, community health, health promotion, education, human development, social work, psychology, or related field
• Advocacy experience at full time equivalency - 2 years "Two years providing direct service in an advocate role to survivors of gender-based violence as primary job duty"
• Prevention/Education at full time equivalency - 2 years  “Two years of experience working in sexual health, gender-based violence prevention, peer education, and/or health promotion”
• Possess relevant statewide certifications regarding advocacy training
• Ability to pass criminal background, drive University vehicle
• Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and interest in gender-based violence prevention and sexual health education
• Demonstrated ability to use independent judgment and make ethical decisions
• Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months. 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree in relevant field of study
• Experience and competency serving in advocacy or counseling to underserved and traditionally marginalized student groups such as but not limited to LGBTQ+ communities, BIPOC students, international students, survivors with disabilities, first-generation survivors, survivors with high financial need
• Experience working in a university setting
• CHES/MCHES certification
• Bilingual (Spanish preferred) 
• Experience speaking in front of diverse audiences and the ability to adapt materials quickly so that the audience can understand the concepts being presented.
