    University of Oklahoma Medical Center Carpenter Foreman

    Department:

    Facilities Engineering

    Job Description:

    General Description

    Under minimum supervision, the Carpenter Foreman coordinates, plans, directs and implements rough and finished carpentry work across OU Health campuses.  The Carpenter Foreman will ensure adherence to safety protocols and quality standards in all work projects.

    Essential Job Duties

    Responsibilities listed in this section are core to the position.  Inability to perform these responsibilities, with or without an accommodation, may result in disqualification from the position. 

    • Plans, supervises and participates in skilled carpentry work in maintenance and/or new construction/additions

    • Determines materials and supplies needed and assigns tasks to subordinate carpenters and helpers

    • Performs and provides detailed instructions on difficult interior and exterior trim work and construction

    • Demonstrates best methods of doing skilled carpentry work

    • Ensures work is carried out according to plans and specifications and is properly coordinated with other trades

    • Instructs and trains other skilled and unskilled team members

    • Checks work in progress and upon completion

    • Supervises and performs cabinet work (construction, assembly and repair of wood articles such as doors, windows, cabinets, built-ins, shop equipment)

    • Selects woodworking machinery, attachments, accessories and cutting tools for desired end result

    • Uses power equipment such as planers, jointers, saws, shapers and other woodworking equipment

    • Makes estimates, prepares requisitions for materials, and supervises materials stores

    • Maintains records and reports of time, materials and supplies used and work performed

    • Maintains knowledge of Firestopping techniques and maintains training logs for all painters and carpenters

    • Oversees Carpentry and Painting contractors

    • Creates Spec's and maintains specs for new construction for interior finishes

    • Maintains records and reports of time, materials and supplies used and work performed

    • Ability to provide schedules of completion

    General Job Duties

    • Performs other duties as assigned

    Minimum Requirements

    Education: High School Diploma or GED required.

    Experience:  At least 10 years experience in Carpentry required with at least 5 years working in a Healthcare environment.

    Certification/License/Registration: Infection Control Risk Assessment qualification issued by ASHE required.

    Door Inspection and Maintenance Qualification issued by ASHE required.

    Clean driving record and current drivers license issued by the State Oklahoma required within 30 days of hire.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • Advanced knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in carpentry.

    • Advanced knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary in the carpentry trade.

    • Expert knowledge of cabinet making principles, methods, tools and equipment.

    • Knowledge of building codes, supervisory and instructional techniques and methods.

    • Ability to follow oral and written directions.

    • Ability to exercise independent judgment.

    • Ability to perform both finished carpentry and cabinetwork.

    • Skill in preparing rough sketches of work and estimates of materials and labor.

    • Ability to read blueprints and work from plans and specifications.

    • Ability to work with Computers or mobile devices to complete tasks as assigned thru Computer Maintenance Program
