Daily Operations Ownership
Run the full daily rhythm — open and secure the facility, manage delivery schedules, receiving, sorting, processing, and shipping — without escalation for routine decisions.
Personally inspect loads, run the scale, and operate equipment when needed; lead from the floor, not the office.
Serve customers at the facility and execute every transaction accurately.
Escalate issues to the VP of Operations with recommendations, not open questions.
Inventory & Data Discipline
Ensure every receipt, shipment, scale ticket, inventory adjustment, and customer transaction is entered into the Outlast platform before close of business, every day, with audit clean records.
Stand up inventory reconciliation processes and hit reported inventory accuracy targets.
Keep material staged, identified, and accessible no “mystery piles.”
Crew Leadership & Development
Stabilize staffing and set a daily work-assignment cadence.
Coach operators, address underperformance, and build coverage depth so the facility never depends on one person.
Invest in your people and build bench strength rather than hoarding knowledge.
Safety, Compliance & Vendor Management
Own safety programs, training records, and environmental and regulatory compliance documentation. Safety for all personnel is top priority.
Never trade safety for throughput; stop work when safety requires it.
Manage vendor relationships, approve invoices and purchase requests, and track facility expenses against budget.
Manage preventive maintenance and downtime for shears, balers, loaders, and scales.
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
Deliver regular KPI reporting to the VP of Operations: throughput, safety, inventory accuracy, downtime, and cost.
Surface risks and capital expenditure needs with business cases, not complaints.
Identify and ship at least 2–3 concrete workflow, layout, or process improvements with quantified impact on throughput, downtime, or cost.
Direct experience running or serving as #2 at a scrap yard or recycling facility. Industry experience is non-negotiable, including knowledge of material grades, weighing and scale operations, QC inspection, and load placement.
Hands-on ownership of receiving and shipping documentation, scale tickets, and inventory reconciliation, with demonstrable accuracy results.
Proven crew leadership: scheduling, work assignment, coaching, and corrective action for yard or equipment operators and processing staff.
Systems fluency comfortable living in an operational software platform daily to enter, audit, and report from it, rather than relying on paper and clipboards.
A player-coach who will personally inspect loads, run the scale, and jump on a forklift when needed.
Able to operate without a corporate admin layer owning your own reporting, recordkeeping, and vendor and customer communication and to work effectively for a VP of Operations who isn’t on site daily.
Comfortable building SOPs, layouts, and operating cadences from loose foundations rather than inheriting a mature ops manual.
Strongly preferred: experience owning safety programs and compliance documentation, and managing vendors and facility expenses against a budget.
Nice to have: preventive-maintenance know-how for shears, balers, loaders, forklifts, grapple material handlers and scales.
Based in Houston, TX; on-site daily with minimal travel.
You run daily operations end-to-end, making routine decisions without escalation.
Every transaction is entered accurately into the Outlast platform by close of business each day, and records are audit-clean.
Inventory accuracy targets are hit and reported, with material staged and easy to identify.
The crew is stable and cross-trained, and the facility no longer depends on any single person.
