Federal Work Study - Makerspace Mentor - NYC

Position Overview: Makerspace Mentors are trained to work with students both one-on-one and in small groups. Mentors interact purposefully with members of the Pace student body to develop successful independent learners. This position supports daily operations by managing appointments and drop-ins, facilitating an effective and safe workspace, maintaining accurate records, and providing essential administrative assistance that enhances the daily operations of the Makerspace and student services.  

The Makerspace Mentor will: 

• Lead Makerspace workshops

• Facilitate fabrication, class sessions, and Makerspace events

• Conduct one-on-one or small group scheduled and walk-in sessions with students from the Pace community

• Support in developing learning resources for students and faculty

• Work on projects and other delegated duties to advocate and support the Makerspace

• Maintain detailed appointment reflections after each session

• Attend and engage in ongoing trainings, assessments, and meetings

• Undergo observations by Makerspace Staff and conduct peer observations

• Respond to email requests in a timely manner

• Set and maintain professional boundaries and working relationships

• GPA of 3.4 or higher (3.5 preferred)

• Advanced technical skills related to Makerspace activities (e.g., 3D printing, laser cutting, sewing)

• Ability to communicate and interact with people of all ages and backgrounds

• Ability to adjust approaches to different learning styles

• Must be able to handle confidential information in a discreet manner

• Reliable and patient with visitors

• Federal Work Study through the university
