Invasive Species Undergraduate Research Assistant

The Undergraduate Research Assistant, under the supervision of the Graduate Research Assistant and Project Investigators, will assist with all aspects of the field work on a grant focused on identifying forest canopy gaps created by Beech Leaf Disease (BLD) and Hemlock Wooly Adelgid (HWA).  The Undergraduate Assistant will also conduct vegetative surveys of these gaps. 

Position Duties/Responsibilities: 

• Assistant will work under the Graduate Assistant and travel to sites throughout Westchester County to locate study plots and then conduct vegetative analysis of these plots. 
• This position will also be responsible for data entry.

• Enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in Environmental Science or a related field.

• Preference will be given to applicants with experience conducting environmental field work; specifically with the identification of vegetation commonly found in Westchester County. 

• Must be comfortable spending long periods of time outdoors in various weather conditions. 

• Must have a valid NY driver’s license.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work independently

• Strong organizational skills
