Amentum is looking for an experienced and certificated Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA) to join our Radiation Protection & Characterisation team.

This is a consultancy role supporting a diverse portfolio of clients across the nuclear, defence, industrial, research and wider regulated sectors. You will provide independent radiation protection advice, undertake audits and assessments, support clients in meeting their statutory obligations and contribute to the continued development and growth of Amentum's radiation protection capability.

We are looking for an RPA who can operate independently, confidently represent Amentum with clients and regulators, and combine strong technical judgement with a practical and commercially aware approach.

Your Role

As a Radiation Protection Adviser, you will:

• Provide competent radiation protection advice to clients in accordance with the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 (IRR17) and other applicable legislation.
• Undertake client audits, inspections and site visits, identifying areas of non-compliance and opportunities for improvement.
• Prepare and review radiation risk assessments, Local Rules, procedures, contingency arrangements and other radiation protection documentation.
• Provide practical advice on the designation of areas, engineering controls, monitoring arrangements and safe systems of work.
• Produce clear, technically robust reports and recommendations following audits, assessments and client engagements.
• Develop and deliver radiation protection training to clients and colleagues.
• Liaise confidently with clients, regulators and other technical specialists.
• Provide technical leadership and support to projects requiring radiation protection expertise.
• Mentor and support developing Radiation Protection Advisers and other radiation protection professionals.
• Contribute to Amentum's Corporate Radiation Protection Body and the continued development of our technical standards and capability.
• Support the growth of RP&C through strong client relationships, identification of opportunities, tender support and development of new work.

About You

To be considered for this role, you will hold a current RPA2000 Certificate of Competence as a Radiation Protection Adviser.

You will also have:

• Significant practical experience in radiation protection, health physics or a closely related discipline.
• Strong working knowledge of IRR17 and associated Approved Codes of Practice and guidance.
• Experience providing radiation protection advice directly to clients or operational organisations.
• Experience undertaking radiation protection audits and compliance assessments.
• The ability to interpret legislation and regulatory requirements and translate these into proportionate, practical advice.
• Strong technical report writing skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to engage with clients and stakeholders at all levels.
• The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and deliver work to agreed timescales.
• A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to client sites as required.

A relevant degree or equivalent technical qualification would be advantageous.

Desirable Experience

Experience in one or more of the following would be beneficial:

• Nuclear and nuclear decommissioning environments.
• Defence or other highly regulated sectors.
• Radioactive waste management.
• Environmental permitting and radioactive substances regulation.
• Radioactive materials transport and Class 7 requirements.
• Radiation monitoring and instrumentation.
• Radiological characterisation.
• Shielding or dose assessment.
• Radioactive Waste Adviser (RWA) certification or experience working alongside RWAs.
• Mentoring candidates through RPA2000 or other professional development routes.
• Supporting tenders, proposals and development of client relationships.
