    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    Title:                          Laborer

    Department/Division: Robert’s Ranch

    Status:                         Full-Time / Hourly

    Supervisor:                 Grove Manager

    Subordinates:              None

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Under supervision of the Grove Manager, the Laborer will assist in the maintenance of the citrus grove and assists in monitoring weather and all related activities pertaining to the citrus grove.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Assist in project work plans and carry out citrus grove ideas.
    • Monitor and, when necessary, repairs irrigation systems.
    • Operates vehicles and other motor-driven machinery.
    • Plant trees, prune, apply fertilizer and herbicides, and control rodents.
    • Performs other related duties as directed by the Grove Manager.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, CERTIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:

    • Knowledge of irrigation systems is required.
    • Knowledge of pruning, fertilizer, herbicides, and frost conditions.
    • Must be reliable and dependable.
    • Ability to lift, stand, and work in various weather conditions.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Must be at least 18 years or older.
    • High School graduate or equivalent education (GED) or related fields preferred.
    • Must acknowledge and agree to maintain a Drug-Free workplace as a condition of employment with the Pala Band of Mission Indians. Must pass pre-employment (including marijuana) and random drug testing during employment.
    • Must have a valid California class C driver’s license.
    • Must be able to pass a Fingerprint-based background check of potential employees, volunteers, and contractors pursuant to Public Law 101-630 - Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act.
    • Indian preference will apply. The Pala Band of Mission Indians will give hiring preference to fully qualified applicants that are Pala Tribal Members.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

    All employees are expected to follow the Tribal Employee Handbook of the Pala Band of Mission Indians and must adhere to any additional applicable addendums.
