Peninsula Post Acute is seeking an experienced and dependable Maintenance Director to lead our Maintenance Department. This is a full-time leadership position responsible for overseeing the facility’s maintenance, safety, emergency preparedness, environmental systems, and overall physical plant operations.
The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills and hands-on knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, life-safety, and building systems, along with experience working in a healthcare, skilled nursing, or similar regulated environment.

What You’ll Do
As Maintenance Director, you will plan, organize, develop, and direct the overall operation of the Maintenance Department while ensuring the facility meets applicable federal, state, and local regulations, safety standards, and facility requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Plan, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the Maintenance Department and its programs.
- Develop, maintain, and implement written maintenance policies and procedures.
- Ensure preventative and routine maintenance schedules are followed.
- Coordinate maintenance services with Nursing, Dietary, Activities, Administration, and other departments.
- Provide leadership, supervision, training, and direction to maintenance personnel.
- Conduct regular rounds and inspections to ensure maintenance responsibilities are completed properly.
- Inspect storage rooms, workrooms, utility rooms, janitorial closets, equipment, and other facility areas.
- Ensure facility equipment and systems are properly maintained and functioning safely.
- Oversee outside vendors and contractors and ensure contracted services are completed properly.
- Participate in facility surveys and inspections conducted by authorized regulatory agencies.
- Develop and implement plans of correction for maintenance-related deficiencies identified during surveys.
- Maintain a safe and comfortable environment for residents, staff, and visitors.
- Oversee fire safety, emergency preparedness, and safety programs.
- Conduct regular inspections of work areas and equipment to identify and address potential hazards.
- Ensure maintenance staff follow established safety procedures and appropriately use required safety equipment.
- Maintain appropriate documentation related to hazardous chemicals, including Safety Data Sheets (SDS/MSDS).
- Ensure hazardous materials are properly labeled, stored, and handled.
- Ensure maintenance personnel receive appropriate safety, infection control, and hazardous-material training.
- Maintain and enforce infection control and universal precaution procedures within the Maintenance Department.
- Coordinate maintenance activities during emergencies and respond appropriately to urgent facility needs.
- Monitor the use of maintenance supplies and equipment to minimize waste and control costs.
- Assist with preparation and management of the Maintenance Department budget.
- Maintain accurate records of department expenditures, supplies, equipment, and maintenance activities.
- Report facility or equipment damage and significant maintenance concerns to the Administrator.
- Ensure appropriate medical waste disposal procedures are followed.
- Maintain confidentiality of resident information, including protected health information (PHI).
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Administrator.
Leadership & Team Responsibilities
This position has supervisory responsibilities and requires a leader who can effectively manage a maintenance team while collaborating with department heads and facility leadership.
You will be responsible for:
- Supervising and evaluating maintenance personnel.
- Conducting regular staff meetings and providing ongoing guidance and training.
- Reviewing staff performance and addressing performance concerns as needed.
- Working with department supervisors to identify facility needs and resolve maintenance issues.
- Ensuring appropriate staffing and coverage for maintenance operations.
- Building a productive and collaborative relationship with facility leadership and staff.
What We’re Looking For
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in a maintenance, plant operations, facilities, or related position.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and building systems.
- Knowledge of boilers, compressors, generators, and related facility equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Knowledge of applicable building codes, safety regulations, and facility requirements.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively to emergencies.
- Healthcare, skilled nursing, senior living, hospital, or other regulated-facility experience is highly preferred.
