OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Responsible for managing LNG chartering activities to secure optimal marine transportation solutions that support Petredec’s trading strategies and commercial objectives. The role focuses on identifying and executing chartering opportunities, optimizing vessel coverage, managing freight exposure, and providing market-driven insights to enhance shipping efficiency, reliability, and value across the LNG portfolio.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitor LNG shipping markets and develop marine transportation strategies aligned with the Business Unit's commercial and trading objectives.
- Analyse freight markets, vessel availability, and voyage economics to identify optimal shipping solutions.
- Identify suitable vessels and negotiate competitive freight rates, charter party terms, and commercial agreements, including Spot In/Out Charters, Contracts of Affreightment (COAs), and short-term Time Charters.
- Provide market intelligence, freight analysis, and vessel availability assessments to support the Business Unit, project teams, and LNG Trading organization in commercial decision-making.
- Develop freight models and perform commercial analysis with analytical tools to evaluate chartering opportunities, voyage economics, and shipping strategies.
- Collaborate with LNG Traders, Scheduling, Operations, and Fleet Management to optimize vessel positioning, freight costs, and portfolio value.
- Manage the commercial and contractual aspects of charter party agreements and provide guidance on voyage execution to ensure timely and cost-effective cargo delivery.
- Maintain accurate chartering and voyage data in IMOS, while supporting process improvements and system enhancements.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with shipowners, brokers, customers, and other market participants to identify commercial opportunities and stay abreast of market developments.
- Monitor freight market risks, regulatory developments, and operational issues, ensuring chartering activities align with the company's commercial objectives and risk management framework.
REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB:
Qualifications, Experiences, Knowledge, and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Business, Engineering, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 7 to 10 years of experience in LNG chartering, LNG shipping, ship brokering, or related commercial maritime roles within an energy company, trading house, utility, or shipowner.
- Strong understanding of LNG shipping markets, vessel operations, LNG supply chain, and relevant contractual structures.
- Experience in analysing freight markets, vessel availability, voyage costs, and market data to support commercial decision-making.
- Strong analytical capabilities, including freight modelling, voyage economics analysis, and proficiency in Excel or similar analytical tools.
- Proven experience negotiating charter party terms, freight rates, and commercial agreements, with strong understanding of chartering practices and contractual obligations.
- Established relationships with shipowners, brokers, and key LNG shipping market participants would be advantageous.
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound commercial judgment, and thrive in an entrepreneurial environment.
