    Job description

Axis Engineering Group is seeking a Field Surveyor / Construction Inspector to support the construction of telecommunications infrastructure throughout the region. This is a hands-on, field-based position responsible for collecting accurate survey information, documenting existing conditions, inspecting construction activities, and verifying that work is completed safely and according to project requirements.

This position spends the majority of the day outdoors working alongside utility contractors, project managers, and customers on active construction sites. If you enjoy working in the field, solving problems, and seeing projects come together from start to finish, this is an excellent opportunity to build a long-term career.

    What You'll Do

    • Perform field surveys for aerial and underground telecommunications projects.
    • Operate a total station and other survey equipment to collect accurate measurements and project data.
    • Survey existing utility poles, conduit systems, handholes, vaults, and underground utilities.
    • Verify existing field conditions before construction begins.
    • Inspect active construction projects to ensure work matches approved plans and customer requirements.
    • Document construction progress with photographs, measurements, field sketches, and detailed notes.
    • Identify field conflicts, safety concerns, and construction issues, then communicate them to the Project Manager.
    • Assist contractors by answering questions related to project layouts and construction drawings.
    • Verify completed work through as-built surveys and field measurements.
    • Locate underground utilities when necessary to support survey and inspection activities.
    • Maintain organized daily reports and submit accurate field documentation.
    • Travel to multiple project sites throughout the workday as needed.
    • 2+ years of field experience in surveying, telecommunications, utility construction, civil construction, or inspection.
    • Experience operating total stations and other field survey equipment.
    • Ability to read construction plans, utility maps, and engineering drawings.
    • Knowledge of aerial and underground utility construction practices is preferred.
    • Comfortable working around heavy equipment, active roadways, and utility construction crews.
    • Strong attention to detail and the ability to recognize construction issues before they become costly problems.
    • Good communication skills and the ability to work directly with contractors, inspectors, customers, and project managers.
    • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
    • Ability to walk uneven terrain, work outdoors in all seasons, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.

    Why Join Axis Engineering Group?

    • Work on projects that expand critical fiber optic and utility infrastructure.
    • Spend your days in the field—not behind a desk.
    • Be part of a team that values quality, safety, and teamwork.
    • Opportunities for advancement into senior inspection, project management, and engineering support roles.
    • Competitive pay, comprehensive benefits, paid time off, retirement savings, and ongoing training.
