ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Schedule patients for testing or procedures. Instruct patients/offices on necessary preps for test.
2. Monitors automated call system reports to ensure all patients are contacted regarding appointments.
3. Collects information such as patient details, medical history, billing and insurance information.
4. Enters information into EHR and maintains accurate records.
5. Communicates effectively with other departments to coordinate scheduling, referrals and other patient needs.
6. Informs patients and their caregivers of hospital procedures, policies and protocols when necessary.
7. Initiates contact with patients, as required, to align facility listed information with insurer databases.
8. Acts as contact person for non-clinical patient questions and concerns around insurance requirements, including required referrals, authorizations, or scheduling protocols.
9. Communicates with community providers on behalf of patients to obtain necessary referrals, and authorization information, as required by insurance.
10. Liaises and communicates with patients to ensure a smooth, seamless process for the patient in scheduling appointments.
11. Manages reporting spreadsheets to track authorization and scheduling statuses of patients with insurance-plan based, referral requirements.
12. Utilizes insurance portals to validate authorization and referral requirements.
13. Performs general administrative tasks related to scheduling, insurance eligibility and referrals.
14. Assists in improving organizational performance, scheduling appointments, and building good working relationships with areas and disciplines with the Medical Center systems.
15. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Experience in a clerical position preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance plans is beneficial. Strong administrative and organizational skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in data entry systems such as an EHR. Ability to multitask and maintain strong attention to detail. Compassionate and patient.
EDUCATION AND LICENSURE:
High school diploma or equivalency required. Two years patient registration experience preferred. Two years patient scheduling experience preferred.
