A Career with Point72's Tax Team

Point72’s Tax team sits at the center of a sophisticated global investment platform, overseeing tax compliance and planning across hedge funds, private equity and management companies, high-net-worth individuals, and tax-exempt organizations.

The team partners closely with Big Four accounting firms and leading external advisors to manage the preparation and review of partnership, corporate, individual, international, and state tax filings. Beyond compliance, the group leads tax research, planning initiatives, and firmwide projects, collaborating across the organization to address complex tax issues in a dynamic investment environment.

    What you'll do

    • Lead tax compliance and reporting for Point72’s private credit business, building scalable processes across partnerships, corporations, blockers, and feeders
    • Manage and review federal and state tax returns, extensions, investor Schedule K-1s, tax estimates, workpapers, and supporting schedules
    • Coordinate and drive cross-functional timelines, data requests, review comments, issue logs, documentation, and internal controls with investment, accounting, legal, investor relations, operations, tax technology teams, and external advisors
    • Operationalize tax planning and structuring conclusions into compliance deliverables, reporting templates, data requirements, and review procedures
    • Review and analyze book-to-tax adjustments, partnership allocations, capital account movements, withholding for non-U.S. investors, effectively connected income, unrelated business taxable income, original issue discount, market discount, and debt/equity characterization impacts
    • Partner with external accounting firms and tax advisors to oversee return preparation, manage quality control, and resolve complex technical issues
    • Lead process improvement and tax technology initiatives to automate data gathering, workflows, and compliance reporting
    • Mentor and train junior tax staff and provide clear technical guidance on investment-level tax matters
    • Communicate tax implications and timelines to senior stakeholders and investment teams, translating technical issues into actionable next steps

    What's required

    • 10+ years of U.S. tax experience including significant alternative investment fund tax compliance experience
    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field and an active CPA license
    • Demonstrated experience with private credit, private equity, credit fund, or similar asset management tax matters
    • Proven experience reviewing partnership and corporate fund tax compliance for blockers, feeders, tiered partnership structures, and complex investment structures
    • Strong technical knowledge of partnership allocations, capital accounts, book-to-tax adjustments, investor reporting, Schedule K-1 preparation, tax estimates, and supporting workpapers
    • Working knowledge of private credit tax issues including direct lending, loan origination, withholding for non-U.S. investors, effectively connected income, unrelated business taxable income, original issue discount, market discount, and debt/equity characterization impacts
    • Experience managing engagements with external accounting firms and tax advisors, including coordination of deliverables and technical reviews
    • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite and demonstrable experience using tax technology or process automation tools to improve compliance workflows
    • Excellent written and oral communication, strong attention to detail, ability to manage competing deadlines across multiple stakeholders, and sound technical judgment with a compliance-focused mindset
    • Commitment to the highest ethical standards
