Polo Managing Agency (PMA) is seeking an experienced and commercially astute Head of Pricing Oversight to lead and enhance pricing governance across our managed Lloyd's syndicates.
This is a highly influential leadership role, providing independent oversight of syndicate pricing capabilities, frameworks and decision-making processes. Working closely with Boards, Senior Management, Underwriting teams and Lloyd's, you will play a critical role in ensuring robust pricing governance, underwriting profitability and regulatory compliance, while helping to drive client growth and market-leading standards.
As a senior member of the Actuarial Function, you will provide expert challenge and guidance to syndicates, support new market entrants, contribute to strategic decision-making and help strengthen PMA's reputation as a leading managing agency.
Pricing Governance & Oversight
- Overseeing pricing frameworks and capabilities to ensure alignment with Lloyd's Principle 1.6 (Underwriting Profitability – Pricing).
- Providing independent review and challenge of pricing methodologies, assumptions and governance.
- Maintaining and developing PMA's Underwriting & Pricing Policy.
- Ensuring pricing activities operate effectively within regulatory and professional standards.
Strategic Leadership
- Acting as a key leader within the PMA Actuarial team, influencing strategy, priorities and team development.
- Supporting the growth of PMA by contributing to new client opportunities and market initiatives.
- Supporting new syndicates through Lloyd's application and "Making It Happen" processes.
- Building strong relationships across underwriting, claims, finance, risk and senior leadership teams.
Pricing Function Development
You will oversee and challenge all aspects of syndicate pricing operations, including:
- Pricing model development, validation and recalibration processes.
- Governance, peer review and approval frameworks.
- Price adequacy assessment and rate monitoring.
- Pricing management information and reporting.
- Delegated Authority pricing governance.
- Data governance, collection, storage and quality standards.
- Technology and pricing system architecture.
- Resource planning for pricing teams.
- Training and development programmes.
- Alignment of pricing assumptions with capital modelling, exposure management and reinsurance strategy.
Board & Committee Engagement
- Presenting pricing insights and recommendations to Underwriting Committees and Syndicate Management Committees.
- Producing high-quality pricing packs to support effective decision-making.
- Supporting Board training on emerging pricing topics and market developments.
- Contributing to ORSA reporting and Actuarial Function Reports, including opinions on underwriting policy and reinsurance adequacy.
Regulatory & Risk Responsibilities
- Acting as a key liaison with Lloyd's on pricing-related matters.
- Ensuring compliance with Solvency UK requirements, Lloyd's guidance, Technical Actuarial Standards (TAS) and Actuarial Professional Standards (APS).
- Supporting PMA's risk management framework and maintaining a strong control environment.
- Ensuring customer outcomes and policyholder interests remain at the forefront of decision-making.
- Non-Life Actuarial experience preferably in London or Lloyd’s market.
- Qualified Actuary or equivalent.
- Knowledge of London Market pricing methods, processes and practices.
- Knowledge of Lloyd’s of London Principles, in particular sub-Principle 1.6 Pricing.
- Good knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Team Player with good communication and presentation skills.
- Strong management and leadership skills.
- Ability to work with a variety of disciplines outside of the department.
- Strong planning and organisation skills.
