Head Start Classroom Substitutes

Do you enjoy working with young children and want a flexible schedule?  Pro Action’s Head Start Classrooms, are seeking applicants for Classroom Substitutes at various locations throughout Steuben and Yates Counties to work as part of our team on an as-needed, on-call basis.  Whether you work just a few hours a week or several, you will be an important part of our classroom team!

As a Classroom Substitute, you will have daily direct interaction with children and assist other classroom staff with implementing activities.  You will assist with children’s mealtimes and make sure the classroom is clean.

• Learning New Skills- As a Classroom Substitute, you will gain valuable experience and training in the classroom while you work as part of a team with the Teaching Staff.  You will learn methods for conducting classroom and group activities and about Head Start and New York State Child Care Regulations.

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Must also be dependable and enjoy working with preschool age children in a classroom setting as they learn, grow, and become ready for kindergarten. 

The ideal candidate must have a valid driver’s license, meeting agency standards per position and consistent, reliable transportation that will allow regular travel in and around the service area.
