Role overview
Your primary strength is your ability to understand the business and speak its language. You listen to users, grasp what they are actually trying to achieve, and turn often vague requests into clear reporting needs.
You are the business entry point for the reporting team. You don't build the reports yourself: behind you, technical analysts and developers take over for the actual implementation. Your value lies upstream — framing the need correctly, challenging a request, preventing the wrong thing from being built — and in the follow-up: you make sure every request moves forward and gets delivered.
Key responsibilities
Understand and translate the business need
- Conduct interviews with users to gather, clarify and challenge their reporting requests.
- Distinguish the real need from the requested solution; reframe a vague need into precise, prioritisable requirements.
- Immerse yourself enough in the business processes to grasp their logic and judge the relevance of a request, without having to be an expert.
- Write clear functional specifications (objective, indicators, granularity, filters, audience, etc.) that are directly usable by the technical analysts.
Ensure end-to-end follow-up
- Own the follow-up of every request: from intake to go-live, you always know where each case stands and what is blocking it.
- Maintain a clear overview of requests, their priorities and their status.
- Chase, coordinate and drive things forward; let nothing fall through the cracks between the business and the technical team.
Bridge with the technical team
- Hand over well-framed, actionable requests to the technical analysts, who handle the implementation.
- Ensure continuity throughout the cycle, without taking on the technical work yourself.
- Organise and run the final validation with users: confirming with them, before publication, that the delivered report truly meets their initial need.
Documentation and support
- Document needs, business rules and framing decisions in a clear and maintainable way.
- Guide users towards the right channels and reporting best practices.
- Support the business in articulating their needs and reading the delivered reports correctly.
Collaboration
- Work closely with teams at local and national level, and with management.
- Facilitate communication and knowledge sharing between internal clients and our team.
