Overview

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Chief Accountant to lead our accounting and tax operations, based in Bucharest, Romania.  This role will have ownership of the General Ledger, tax compliance (direct and indirect), transfer pricing, and statutory reporting. The ideal candidate will have leadership skills, deep knowledge of Romanian GAAP, and a proven ability to drive process improvements within a multinational environment.

Responsibilities

• Ownership of the General Ledger, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data.
• Oversee direct and indirect tax compliance and transfer pricing documentation.
• Manage monthly, quarterly, and interim statutory reporting.
• Coordinate with Finance teams to ensure timely month-end and year-end close.
• Act as the main point of contact for external auditors, ensuring timely sign-off of statutory accounts.
• Review trial balance and P&L transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance with local regulations.
• Prepare and deliver ad-hoc financial analysis and reports as needed by management.
• Drive process improvements and automation within the accounting and tax functions.
• Ensure full adherence to internal control procedures and local accounting standards.
• Comply with internal policies, procedures, and health & safety regulations.

Qualifications

Professional Qualifications

• Certified Accountant – CECCAR accreditation preferred but not required
• Excellent knowledge of Romanian GAAP and IFRS

Experience

• 7 years of experience in a similar role, preferably within a multinational environment.
• Relevant experience in GL management, tax, statutory reporting, and audits.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills in both English and Romanian (spoken and written).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Highly organized and structured, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative.
• Strong focus on compliance, control, and transparency.
