    Job description

    Consultant Histopathologist

    Consultant Histopathologist

Our client is seeking an experienced and motivated Consultant Histopathologist to join their well-established pathology service.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a progressive department that combines a supportive working culture with modern laboratory facilities and a strong commitment to service development, education and research.

The successful candidate will contribute to the department's general histopathology workload while also having the opportunity to develop specialist interests that complement the existing consultant team.

This position would suit both newly qualified consultants approaching CCT and experienced Histopathologists looking for their next substantive appointment.

    The Opportunity

Working within an experienced multidisciplinary team, the successful applicant will play an important role in delivering a comprehensive diagnostic histopathology service while contributing to the continued development of pathology services across the organisation.

The laboratory is fully accredited to UKAS ISO 15189:2022 standards and benefits from modern facilities, contemporary diagnostic equipment and an established mortuary service operating under a Human Tissue Authority (HTA) licence.

The department undertakes a substantial post-mortem workload alongside a broad range of routine and specialist histopathology services, providing excellent opportunities for consultants wishing to maintain and develop a varied practice.

    Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be expected to:

    • Deliver a high-quality diagnostic histopathology service.
    • Participate in the department's general reporting workload.
    • Develop a specialist area of practice alongside existing consultant expertise.
    • Work collaboratively with consultant colleagues and multidisciplinary clinical teams.
    • Provide professional leadership and support to scientific, technical and medical staff.
    • Participate in departmental governance, audit and quality improvement initiatives.
    • Support undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes.
    • Contribute to research and service innovation where appropriate.
    • Ensure all clinical work is undertaken in accordance with professional standards and organisational policies.

    About the Department

Our client has invested significantly in its pathology services and continues to develop modern laboratory infrastructure alongside digital innovation and workforce development.

The department is recognised for its collaborative culture and places a strong emphasis on clinical quality, education and continuous improvement.

Consultants work within a supportive multidisciplinary environment where opportunities exist to pursue specialist interests while maintaining a broad histopathology practice.

    Professional Development

This organisation places significant emphasis on consultant development and offers:

    • Structured consultant induction.
    • Leadership and management development programmes.
    • Mentorship for newly appointed consultants.
    • Support for research and academic activity.
    • Annual appraisal and comprehensive support for GMC revalidation.
    • Excellent educational and library facilities.

    Candidate Requirements

    Essential Qualifications

    Applicants should possess:

    • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
    • Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists (FRCPath) or an equivalent specialist qualification.
    • Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Histopathology, or equivalent specialist recognition for applicants trained outside the UK.

    Essential Experience

Candidates should be able to demonstrate:

    • Broad training and experience in Histopathology.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong organisational and workload management abilities.
    • Experience supervising and supporting multidisciplinary colleagues.
    • A commitment to delivering high-quality diagnostic services.

    Personal Attributes

    The successful candidate will demonstrate:

    • Professional integrity and accountability.
    • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
    • A collaborative approach to multidisciplinary working.
