    Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join an Outstanding Specialist College in Southwark, supporting young people and adults with a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The college offers life-changing learning opportunities for students with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), communication and behavioural difficulties, and complex medical needs.

This role is ideal for a Band 6 or Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist with experience in specialist education or complex needs. You will work within a highly supportive, multi-disciplinary team, delivering person-centred, evidence-based speech and language therapy to empower learners to develop functional communication, independence, and skills for meaningful participation in their community.

    Key Responsibilities

    In this role, you will:

    • Assess, diagnose, and manage speech, language, communication, and swallowing needs for young people and adults with complex SEND, including PMLD and behavioural needs.

    • Plan and deliver individualised and group therapy programmes aligned with learners’ functional goals and educational outcomes.

    • Provide specialist advice, modelling, and training to teaching staff, support workers, and families to embed communication strategies across the learning environment.

    • Contribute to Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) processes, annual reviews, and multi-disciplinary team meetings.

    • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in line with professional, organisational, and legal standards.

    • Support service development and best practice, with opportunities to mentor junior colleagues or students (Band 7 level).

    Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this role, you should have:

    • A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).

    • HCPC registration and membership (or eligibility) with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).

    • Experience working with young people or adults with SEND, PMLD, complex communication needs, or behavioural challenges.

    • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organisational skills.

    • A reflective and proactive approach to continuing professional development.
